well if you're REALLY desperate, you could just fit one of those bmx wheels that looks similar... probably pick one of those up really cheap, and it'd get people saying "phooar aggressive geometry, what is that, a 300c on the front?"

Nicholas What's with the whole aerospoke thing?
Heavy, expensive and flexy !
(but they look nice)

winston it only looks cool to other people who think it looks cool, a bit like wearing a Status Quo tee shirt, other Quo fans think you're the man...but people who know music think you look like a dick...and most people don't care / notice.
"people who know music"
roll my eyes to heaven
I fucking love Status Quo !

here's what I think: Aerospokes look kinda cool in the same way that mag wheels looked cool on bmx's. But no one in their right mind would ride a mag over a good spoked wheel for "trickery" on a bmx! They just simply can't take it..
I've been trying to find the best way of building STRONG wheels, that I wouldn't be scared of bending if I were to start jumping around on the fixed - I just can't believe aerospokes are the strongest wheels available - unless they came up with a miraculous new material, I imagine they'd flex like hell and I can't see them being that strong really..
So what else? Deep V's?
See, my problem is that on a bmx, with muuuch smaller wheels (and therefore stronger by design..) we run 500g double walled, box section rims with 36h as the absolute minimum. Ok, it'd be hard to take a fixie through the same kind of hell, but is there anything comparable in strength at all?

36h high-flange hubs (mm phils), deep section rims, st stainless spokes.. built PROPERLY by a good wheel builder.
They'll be stiff as fsck though and vibrate your teeth out. -

Absolutely right !
Here is a comprehensive table of wheel stiffness data, [click me] and from one hundred and forty wheels tested where do you think the 700c aerospokes came ? Absolutley last ! They are without a doubt the least stiff wheels out there - and they are also one the heaviest wheel sets of the 140 tested, possibly even the heaviest if you take out the disc wheels.

My two pence ! have you seen how Aerospoke insert the hub into the wheel (on their site) .. unless I'm mistaken that isn't going to last more then a couple of skid stops before it's loose ..

this is another issue with them - they aren't design for backpedalling, and when you strip the hub, the companies are under no obligation to replace it or help you.

36 hole high flange hubs - Goldtec are pretty burly with 14mm axles (I think) that are machined down to fit the track ends. Lace them up with some thick DB spokes to touring or tandem rims. I've heard good things about Sun Rhinos. They'll probably be stronger than Deep Vs but don't come in colours to coordinate with your bike.
But basic physics shows that a 700c wheel will never be as strong as a 20" wheel.

Secretly i think the increasing ubiquity of the aerospoke is nothing to with ride quality, but further evidence that ex-bmx devotees are decamping to the world of fixed en masse. in this respect, aerospokes are not much more than mag wheels. The only reason I toyed with the idea of an aerospoke is because they look like Mags and bring back entertaining childhood memories.
Though I disqualify myself from the en-masse-decamping as I still ride BMX. Agreeed with Mags being shit though. I'd never use them for BMXing. -

Phill wood do a 48 spoke fixed rear hub and like momentum siad add on a 8 hole tandem rim.

Turns out the guys in there are complete c*cks, totally ignored him (even after asking for help) and the shop was pretty much empty anyhow... F*ck all on sale!?
