  • Wow it ha happened.

Wait a min, I can see some problems with this, what if another animal got into the teleporter at the same time and it mixed your dna with the other animals, say a fly, it may be good for a while but I can see all types of problems in the future, definatly if you have a significant other. I change my mind may be I should just stick with riding my bike.

    You'd get the London Langster.

I agree. I just don't get why the hell you would need to drive in London. If you need move something large, get a taxi. Or rent a van. But the school kids that get dropped off in 4x4s and Bentleys everyday at the private schools in South Ken near Exhibition Road and various other places - no excuse at all.

Well, that's up to them. They'll pay more in taxes, won't they.

I believe bikes are great and i think more people should ride them, but i believe more strongly in peoples right to be free to decide how they travel.[/quote]

They're just making London a nosier, more polluted, congested and generally shittier place for the rest of us. Imagine if congestion charging was income assessed, haaa. I bet they'd soon be out of their cars. Not to mention the damage to the environment caused by the unnecessary emissions. I'd say the rest of the population of the world has an even greater right to not be screwed over by anthropogenic global warming than some posh prick's right to drive their little public school brat in a bloody 4x4.

There's a simpsons episode that answers that... well not another animal, but Bart.

    You are a genius.

  • The middle of this thread got a bit political, now we're back to 'cool' cars. (BTW I'm actually digging this alpha above!) Maybe its a cliche to be cycling car hater, but at least its an opinion! Better than apathy.

People always say 'country people have much more need for cars'. How true is this?

I got a train to Kemble recently, to vist my bruv (a 4x4 drivin' country dude). I decided to leave my little car at home, even though this is the kind of journey it's normally reserved for: at least 100 miles in a day. But that day I wasn't with girlf and 3 yr old kid, so I though I'd show off my bike to my country family and maybe open their eyes a bit! Which it did.

Sooo, I ride my 'hack' to Paddington. I pay LOADS for a return to Kemble. It's only the other side of Swindon, maybe 80 miles. But the train's WELL expensive, and with slightly confusing arrangements re: where to put bikes. The train staff were helpful enough, but I couldn't help feeling as if I was a 'problem' rather than normal. Then I have a lovely ride to my bruv's, apart from the country drivers' driving which shocked me (fast and not at all considerate of me) - much worse then London, from a cyclist's perspective, even if there were lots less of em. I'd more likely think twice about getting the kid on his bike seat thing up there than I would in London. So it was lovely, but costly. I am much more likely to drive that journey because of that - my car's dead economical and costs me much less in fuel than the train. But I fI go alone it'll be by bike.

Here's a thought: apparently if we reduce our electricity use by 5%, we reduce our carbon output equivalent to HALVING the number of internal cumbustion engines around. I can't give a refernce for this but I heard it Radio 4, so it's likely to have some truth in it, surely. Cars have a place for me. Granted, a smelly, expensive and ugly place. I don't see them as 'beautiful' like some of the posters above, I really don't. Especially not the cock-cars. I'd prefer a deux-chevaux any day.

  • i see it as strange to hate an inanimate object......

  • YEp Aidan it's nonseneical.

BTW you seen this mad dude?

I'd get rid of the car if I could do that!

  • i would make people think differently about transport....

  • aidan i would make people think differently about transport....

Do you mean maybe not go and get the kids from the school a mile away in a car, or something more radical?

i was meaning a complete ban of cars(i dont see any other way to get rid of cars unless you have a 3 wishes) would be the wrong way to go about it,educating the masses would be the way i would go...

  • +1 to the train not really being a viable alternative.

GF and I have to go up to Manchester in 2 weeks time - it's gonna cost £200 for the pair of us to travel up by train, then we've got to walk, bus or cab to our final destination. The alternative is £60 for petrol, we can leave when we want and travel door to door.

It's also amazing how inconsiderate 'country people' are to cyclists. Pass really close and really fast - scares the bejesus out of you. Don't think city people are any more consdirate, just travelling slower on wider roads.

  • why do you think this is the case?.....i dont think it has much to do with the country air or the badger population....

  • Country roads are quieter and cyclists are unexpected. Trains are overpriced but if we create demand for them, companies will see a need and cater for it.
I paid £60 for return to Manchester to see the WC Track. It was probably cheaper by plane but I'm a little more green than that (and I fscking hate all the bollox at airports).

  • So I just cough up £200 to 'create demand'?

  • It is a shame many of train line where riped up in the 60's (or it may have been the 50's). Many small ish town no longer have a station and line and with the current system in need of refurbishment and upgrading the chance of any of the ripped up lines being reinstated is more or less zero.

  • when i go back to the shire i get a train from waterloo straight to the mighty petersfield......an open return only cost me 20squid with my student rail card.......actually 20squid is too much :)

  • dangerMouse So I just cough up £200 to 'create demand'?

You can do whatever you want.
For me, if there is a 'reasonable' price difference I would pay extra to go on the train.
'Reasonable' varies for different people and a lot of people still see some kind of thrill in flying and want to save the difference.

  • I have two cars and a motorbike!

    The family car

    The mid life crisis car

    The motorbike

I rarely use any of them much to my girlfriends annoyance.

  • i know nothing about motorbikes.....but i know that looks good!

  • I've got one of them. Brakeless mind.

  • some hate for cars....check this piece of shite out!.....the bloke that owns bape...tit!

  • That is horrible...

Just because you're rich doesn't give you the excuse for shocking taste...

  • Richard Cheese I've got one of them. Brakeless mind.
