Why not still do the cheese medal and award it to the fastest fixed rider?
This was always going to end up with a geared top three so fixed needs a medal of its own.

Pete has a point. I'll make it happen :)

Why not have a geared list and a fixed list? Seems appropriate...
I'll get out next week on my geared and see what I can do.

Heading over tomorrow in the AM, let see how my time is.
TBH, I'm not sure how much of a difference riding a fixed wheel will be, as the list seemed quite sporadic.

If I had some gears I'd definitely be faster. I'm spinning out on the straights, grinding up the climbs and holding back on the descents. I'm actually looking into getting a geared bike, but feel it may be the wrong time of year to get one.
I've only been cycling properly since 2008 and always fixed, so I've kinda never ridden a geared bike. Very odd.

Yeah! Shame Tom will have it...

If anything, it's the right time of years getting the 2011 models at discounted price before it get sold out to make way for the 2012 version (which already have arrived).

^ Without de-railing this thread too much, recommended geared bikes sub-£500?
-
• #485
From the top of my head;
others will have some better suggestion though.

Something nice second hand Nathan, new sub-£500 road bikes aren't all that from what I've seen and you'll get much more for your money. Either the modern, practical end of vintage or a 'nearly new'. e.g. This would have been too small for you but would have been a cracking way to spend c.£500 on a roadie.
Before I got my Colnago I'd ridden fixed constantly since 2008, riding gears was weird. It really took some getting used to. I was petrified of only having the brakes to stop me, it felt unsafe. And using the gears properly took some re-learning. And I had to learn to freewheel, I kept pedalling constantly!
I'd agree now isn't the time of year, although that does mean potential bargains as other people think the same thing.

Isn't that the whole point of the LFGSS jersey?

Oh ffs Bainbridge, what did you have to go and do that for?
I vow not to post here again until I've got a decent time down.
Loving the tags on this thread by the way, but the bike radar chevron combo shows a distinct lack of imagination.

I'd like to have a crack at this one- will the park be hell on earth on Saturday?
That's the only time I can realistically get there and [hippy]smash it[/hippy]
