The only problem with the London Langster is the paint job, a quick respray and you have a pretty decent bike for £400.

great to see one in the flesh at bike polo today. everyone was very polite indeed. i commented on the rather small 42t "messenger sugino" chainring.

Nothing wrong with a 42T..
I saw a Wrongster at the London Freewheel today, along with what I thought was Yorgo's ride, until I spotted it was a white IRO, freewheel with two orange deep-v and orange tyres.. and ridden by a 10 year-old :)

what? did I start a pre-teen trend?
y

• #81
Dunno man, but I spotted it and thought it was you until I noticed both wheels were orange and it was actually an IRO.. you're gonna have to sell yours now.. or destroy the kid's bike :)

Or do a "Maddy" on him.. sorry bad joke

Ooohh
(Ok, I still laughed.. :)) -

cornelius blackfoot was in evans (replacing an innertube 2nd puncture in 5 days) and saw a guy buying one, apart from the red rims and hubs, it isn't the prettiest bike in the world. Was upset for him, wanted to let him know he could buy something different. but just huffed over my inner tube and bit me tongue. Beauty's in the eye of the beholder dontcha know ;-P
The Langster comes with puncture resistant tires, doesn't it?

That's sold it for me! I'm going to buy one today! Woo!

had two more punctures since then. so maybe i should investigate
Saw a "wrongster" (oh how I laughed when I first read that - but only the 2007 model mind) in the window of another evans - don't ask, and i take back what I said about the rims and the hubs, they have this really flat matt surface. Doesn't sparkle or shine like you think they should. From a distance nice to look at but up close just not doing it for me. I'm all about the shiny anodized parts me... ;-PIf anybody's on the forum and you've brought one, don't worry about what we say, ride it and enjoy it. Opinions make th world go round, and we're only laying into it until another mass produced bike comes along, then we'll give that one a good kicking as well...

Ha ha ha. I AM that bloke who has just bought one, though I haven't picked it up yet. I went into the shop today for a new road bike (Scott S20), saw the Langster London, liked the look of it (really!) and took it for a test ride. It was the first time I'd ever ridden a single-speed bike and was so blown away by it that I bought them both!
Now I find out that I'm going to be laughed at. Great. But if these bikes turn more people onto fixed/singlespeed riding, you shouldn't be so harsh on them. I've spent all night on the web reading about them (just signed up to this thing too) and now I'm going to convert the beautiful '60s Gillott 531 road bike I have in the garage to a fixie... will you still laugh at me then?
Where do I go for cool bits?

just wait a bit and ride the langster, you don't need to change it if ou like it
-
• #89
I'll keep the Langster, but want to do the Gillott conversion too because it's just languishing in the garage and not getting used. Been looking for a thread on here for the best shops/online sources for fixed conversions but can't find one - am I being stupid? Wanna give me some pointers?

If you read enough of these posts, you'll realise that someone's always taking the piss out of someone (including me). You like it, you enjoy it. Seriously - good for you.
Bring it along to one of the rides, and I bet you'll have people wanting to try it out.
Different strokes, for different folks, sort of thing.

Thanks for the encouraging words, but I think I might wait until I've done the Gillott before I attend any rides. Particularly as the only other person I know (and could bring along) with a fixie has a beautiful 14lb titanium creation he built himself. You'll all love his bike and laugh at my mass-produced crap, and he'll be unbearable on the way home...

if you are faster than him/her on your langster, then i won't be laughing....

Check username. Unlikely to be faster.
Best shop for fixed bits please?

langster london (not my favourite) is a great starter bike.
will lead up to gillot neatly.
ne panic pas. we laugh with you, not at you. bike snobbery is as much a part of bicycle riding as hats and
lycrawheels. it doesn't stop, as jack thurston said once, 'there's always a bigger gorilla", as in, a better, nicer bike - or a worse one for that matter. -

yeah, i agree with peejay, don't matter about the london langster... i started this thread just because i don't like it myself as do some people i know, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there are quite a number of them around town more than the green one so.... as long as you're riding, there's one more person on a bike in this city to join us :)
It is not lead, it is pepperami.
