This is the best name, possibly ever.
I suppose this is also the wrong thread to praise something in.
Don’t care. -

Two hoildays is hardly out there is it? Nor is two meals out. Probably with only one alcoholic drink.
I say it is, but I grew up not expecting that level of luxury.
I would guess I’m a lot older than you and that will definitely affect my pov. -

I don’t know how families on average income make it work. It’s terrible. :-(
They can’t. They move towns, take out multiple credit cards, work 5 jobs between 2 parents, and they live knowing they’re one emergency hospital stay away from financial ruin.

I guess from a UK perspective at that time you could have a holiday for £800pp fairly easily and even in London it wasn't hard to find nice good value places for under £40pp with a drink. With a group at places like the Vietnamese on Greek St or Tayyabs, you'd split a bill and it would be £20 with drinks.

Ah, well that's the spendy bit. Move to Kentucky. Problem solved.

A fave of mine too but top slot goes to the Rev B M C Morris.
You probably have to be of a certain age to appreciate that one. -

That was happening to me and now doesn't so either they turned it off coz it was fucking annoying or I broke their web clients somehow

West Coast
Isn't that like going to Brighton and then complaining how expensive the whole of the UK is based on that?
-
• #24662
Not really, tbf. West Coast of the US is incredibly diverse, but it only really works for the top earners who are probably 90% a certain demographic (that’s another thing that is broken particularly on the West Coast).
I’m more and more convinced our friends will move back to London!

Be interested to know where you mean, as it's a pretty big coast.
I've spent a while around Seattle/Portland area and never found it eye watering expensive (seemed very on par with UK for food, coffee etc, although admittedly I wasn't buying housing there).
Or boring, absolutely amazing place, Puget sound, the mountains just outside, urban things etc etc.

we had a trip to California a couple of years ago, and while waiting for airport time on the way home played a similar game, trying to figure out whether it would be possible to live there, housing costs, potential salaries. We stopped playing pretty quickly.

But there are plenty of other places that are way cheaper. I was in Olathe, KS on my last trip to the states for instance. You can get a nice 3,000 sqft family home for $400k there
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/12243-S-Gallery-St-Olathe-KS-66062/75569684_zpid/Before that I was in Ashland, Ohio which is cheaper, and this was matched with prices at walmart, restaurants, etc.

• #24666
I mean, that place is huge, but do I want to live there?

Costa Mesa.
And I absolutely take your point - I’m looking to plan a trip to Northern California and Oregon.
But a lot of it is samey, from what I’ve seen…

Fucking bike industry non-standards
I want to have a bike ready to ride on Saturday morning so bought a Dub crankset and Dub BB (and paid extra for next day delivery), because I can't find anything reasonably priced that uses GXP. Fine, whatever, GXP is pretty terrible. At least the bike has a BSA BB, despite the dickheads trying to get everyone onto pressfit, should be easy.
Neither of my two fucking BB tools fit (thanks Shimano for making buy a second one) and none of my multitude of BB spacers are correct. Fuck off you anti-consumer twats

Wow do all US houses look like serial killer homes? Just browsing Zillow is my new hobby…thanks!

Power cuts.
Sitting the dark waiting for it to come back on, got a job interview tomorrow and pinned tonight for research and prep.
TBF Shane from UK Power network called me 5 minutes after I reported the outage and updated me with what's happened, when the engineer is due and a rough timeframe for reinstated power.
Shane then text me his extension incase I want more updates. Or maybe setup dates? Either way, great customer service. -

Been an independent bike mechanic for over 15 years now. Time was that I could say with confidence that I could service 99% of bikes. No way I can say that now. To tool-up for that would seriously dent my profits for some considerable time and a lot of it would be used very infrequently, if ever.

Spent last week in Shipley, Yorkshire.
Greggs was the only game in town.

I do love Greggs but it's a bit sad because there used to be loads of independent bakers up North, now they're all greggs
I’d probably get paid just over double £ to $. So actually not quite double in £ to £.
And I actually have no desire whatsoever to live over there. Doing holiday stuff aside… it’s boring.
