Whats the bet that they hire a consultancy to find out why so many people go to A&E with minor conditions only to find out that its because nobody can get a GP appointment?
Like they discovered last time they hired a consultancy to find out why so many people were going to A&E with minor conditions about 15 years ago.

Picklebacks FTW.
This is the correct answer.

I think it was one of the general large pickle jars, but I missed the actual act as I was in the very long queue for the bar, pretty sure it's on their Facebook account, could be their lovely owner's personal one though.

anyone tried pickled walnuts?
csb incomming. We used to have pickled walnuts regularly at home, I loved them. One day my mum used them as side to a slightly out of date quiche. The following day, I was as ill as I can ever remember being. I was probably sick 20+ times. Those were the last pickled walnuts I ate and that was over 20 years ago. Maybe it's time I faced my fears and tried some again.

I'm a recent pickles convert thanks to American Mrs EB who insists on pickles with just about anything. I quite like Frickles these days too...
Weird how our taste buds change

I witnessed this the other week, making my way down to Seven Sisters tube on the way home from watering a mate's plants.
Two people - who obviously know each other - say hi and then the one leaving the tube says to her mate entering: "anywhere where you off?". Her mate (looking well, cheery, laughing, smiling, eating a box of chips): "oh I'm off to A&E... yeh I just don't feel quite right".
I get this:
find out why so many people go to A&E with minor conditions only to find out that its because nobody can get a GP appointment
but, come on, if we all went to A&E on those days when we didn't "feel quite right"...

Hey
You’re way too late, you pickle the drupes (fruit stage with no shell formed) not the nuts (now). Usually about late May-mid June.
They are an acquired taste, I really love them spread on oatcakes under sharp cheese, or blended into stew stock. I make mine with live cider vinegar, and add a drop raw after it’s all done to restart the culture in the jars (heating stops this).
The recipe I follow (barring the vinegar) is on Gabriel Hemery’s blog, he’s a sylvanophile. Takes about three weeks to process them before the actual pickling bit. I’ve made 15-20kg in the past, this year just a couple of jars.
Get in touch next year and I’ll give you some crucial pointers that may slip your mind between now and then.

It is more recommended to make Nocino
I also make this. Again, not everyone’s cup of bitter-sweet liqueur. Also made in Poland and former Yugoslavia. Kris from here recommended I try it years back, said his Granny called it ‘medicine’.

Another complicating factor is that A&Es get paid per attendance on a sliding scale. It generates a fair bit of cash for larger trusts.
Last time I handled A&E data I think it was £29 the moment somebody walks through the door and £99 the moment they touch a trolley (not including any requirement for secondary care). That was a long time ago though so numbers have probably changed

"Speaking as a parent"...I cannot fathom this.
I've spent more time in A&E in the last 4yrs than my life combined, and I've never had a pleasent experience. Some have been worse than others, but all pretty awful.

I don't think it's just GP access that is the problem. A&E are seeing lots of dental abscesses etc at the moment apparently. I excruciating pain that might not happen if people could see an NHS dentist.

Zoomers who are barely computer literate but work on iOS or Android like it's second nature. If there's something I really couldn't predict 10 or 20 years ago is that computer literacy would be a great asset in the future once again.

I dunno what a zoomer is but if you mean young people, then yeah... WTF.

I was assuming this was meant to be boomer. I know a fair few old people who do everything on a tablet.

A zoomer is a Gen Z person

My godforsaken in-laws.
If I have to listen to another Daily Mail inspired commentary on the state of the country I will fucking kneecap myself.
Today they read a story about the reintroduction of bison in Kent. Top quotes included:
“These people are completely insane.”
“What will they do when a child gets eaten or something like that?” THEY’RE FUCKING HERBIVORES YOU ABSOLUTE PAIR OF FUCKING JOHNSONS
“It says here they scratch tree trunks, so that’ll be the end of all the trees in Kent won’t it - thought these lefties liked trees?” NO YOU PIG IGNORANT FUCKS, PART OF THE AIM IS THAT THEY’ll GET RID OF NON-NATIVE SPECIES AND IN THAT PROCESS CREATE DEADWOOD FOR INVERTEBRATES AND LIGHT FOR REPTILES AND NATIVE PLANTS. SHOULDN’T THE IDEA OF SMASHING FOREIGNERS TO BITS APPEAL TO YOUR TINY FUCKING RACIST MINDS?!
“All this time and money and for what? Insects? What do they matter?” AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
There is no imaginable upside to getting into a fight with these people but it’s so hard to listen to. My wife has become a master at saying ‘and breathe’ with her eyes alone across the table which helps. If they ever vocalise these sorts of things in the presence of our kids though I will execute with extreme prejudice.
It just baffles me how very well educated, well travelled people can so regularly end up down these rabbit holes of bitterness, negativity and small-mindedness and what seems like
pure hate for anything and everything not within their little bubble.I’m going to go for a swim just so I can scream underwater for an hour. Thanks for listening.
