I'm starting to hate tap-in tap-out journey payment on open (unbarriered) platforms. Either put a barrier there to force the tap or let folks travel for nowt.

Junkies are always in a hurry, walking out into traffic.... impervious and immortal
Scottish ones always seem to be arguing with each other very loudly too

Partly memory too, if you forget to tap out you get charged for the furthest you could've gone that day. Plus the hiviz folks who scan your card mid journey then hit you with £100 fine if you had forgotten to tap in. Yes it can catch the piss takers but also penalises forgetful / absent minded folks. I have to carry my card in my hand so as not to forget.
I also know of people who never tap in or out & only pay the fines to the hi viz folks as it is cheaper in the long run.

Paying the 'maximum fare' deliberately instead of a commuter rail ticket.
You know you can claim back the penalty fare if you forget to tap in/out? But only a few times a month. It's easy with an online oyster/tfl account, even if you pay by bank card.

“Excuse me mate, can you borrow me two quid for the bus”.
No. It’s contactless only and - for fucks sake - I just want to walk down the high street once without you scuttering past inefficiently and pestering me for cash.
Told ya!

For a while I think on the northern line years ago you had to get out at bank and walk to monument to get back on a train. Both stations had open barriers so you didn't have to pay extra. I didn't realise this the first time I did the journey, tapped out at the open barrier at bank, didn't tap in at monument, then when I tried to leave I couldn't get past the barriers as it charged a £15 fine and I was using an oyster with a -£3 limit.

I've got some mates who are in a collective in Vienna that all chip in a few euros a month to a big pot. They never pay for fares on any public transport and dip in to the group pot for any occasional fines. Not sure if that's genius or just dickish.
-
• #20337
It's dickish. Especially in Vienna where fares are low (about a euro a day if you buy an annual I believe).
I assume they also routinely shoplift.

It's not really an I hate, more of fucking annoying, is kids bike specs not listing weight.
I don't care what kind of shit seatpost and crap rims on your apollo/kona/trek, I just don't want it to be 13kg for a 24" bike. -

When a framebuilders’ Instagram account that you follow(ed) because of interesting frame-building posts turns in to just constant selfie posts and stories going on about how vacuous and toxic social media is.

My card links to my employer so I now have constant anxiety they'll pull me in for repeated full fare days. I'm yet to be fined by the hi-viz folk but it feels inevitable. I spent the best part of 10yrs buying paper tickets and the adjustment to tappy tappy is proving very hard.

Do they also have cnc machine that keeps braking down?

Just make an account for your card and apply for the refunds
https://oyster.tfl.gov.uk/Incomplete journeys
You can apply for a refund by selecting a journey and providing the missing information. You can make 3 application(s) per calendar month from the list below. You must apply within 8 weeks of the journey.Your refund will usually be the difference between the maximum fare charged and the advertised fare for the journey made.

I'm not in London, sorry hadn't made that clear. In London most stations have barriers? I couldn't forget so easily in that case. Maybe I should relocate. Are the streets really paved with gold?

Goldish, as Pratchett would say.
