Get a pro to do it.. Google Euro Quality Coatings! They'll sort you out. They also spray the not so cool Bromptons.

Spam.
And who said Bromptons aren't cool? -
• #232
I'm not old enough to consider Bromptons cool yet.. It's like Radio 4

One thing I leart from bike painting... not worth the time. The time spent on it could be spent getting paid to get it done proffesionally plus the bike will be up and running faster and better quality. But nothing beats the satisfaction of riding on exactally what you want to ride on...

trying to strip some paint, but the paint stripper isnt working! any idea? im using bartoline paint and varnish stripper
-
• #235
Use nitromors - put it on really thick and wrap it in clingfilm and leave somewhere cool and shady (like the shed) for 30 minutes or longer. The idea is to keep the nitromors wet for as long as possible.

Nitromors or ovenpride works a treat with me

Does nitromors do the trick with powder coat? Got some bars I want to strip and pretty sure they're powdercoated.
-
• #238
Nope, it won't touch it.
Do a test area so you don't waste loads. -

Anything better to use or should I attack it with the wire brush drill bit?
-
• #240
it works fine with powder coat and a bit of wire something

scraper maybe, edge of old chisel etc.
wire brush drill bit sounds good too.
maybe even get it media blastedI have tried nitromors on powdercoat before and it has done bugger all.

Ha, buying different bars would be cheaper than getting these blasted!
Found a full tin of nitromors in the cupboard so going to give them a good dousing tomorrow then scrape/brush off if possible. Will report back as to how the nitromors does.

The powdercoat came away fairly painlessly, alot easier than the enamel I stripped off Les. Was a fairly thin coat though I think.
Polished up nicely

I have an alu mtb frame I fancy rawing.
Once I've nitromorsed the shit out of it, and buffed it within an inch of its life, what so I need to do?
IE clearcoat/ laquer, etc
Or will it be ok in its raw state?
It's 7075(iirc) grade alu if that makes a difference. -
• #246
It'll be fine raw. It'll go dull over time - when this happens, give it another wipe over with Autosol or some other metal polish (paint-cutting compound is even finer).

found a handy littel guide on a different forum.
(still yet to strip mine down though)Use nitromors with a cheapy paint brush, get the paint bubbling and then apply more, at this point loads will come off and the paint that remains will react with the new stripper. Wipe all the residue off with clean paper towels, this'll help you see where there is still a solid pair covering.
Use coarse wire wool next, it'll start to clean up the bare metal and also take off any small areas of paint. If there are any patches of paint bigger than 10mm or so use a bit more stripper dabbed on, get it bubbling and apply more. Then wipe down again.
Hit it with the coarse wire wool again, and once you're happy that the pair is all gone you can go to a finer grade.Once I'm done with the med and fine wire wool I'll use soaked 800, 1200, 2000 and 2500 grade aluminium oxide paper (available in packs of 4 from Halfords for about £2 a pack) and then I'll finish it with the cheap ass metal polish from the pound shop.
The nitromors was a £8, wire wool £1.50, different papers about £8 and the polish was a quid, so for less than £20 and a bit of hard work you can have a mint looking frame. If you do a good enough job with the different grades of wool and paper you'll probably only need to polish it once a year or so.

one tip with Nitromors is to apply is really thick. Also don't use a substitute, everything else is crap.

so they changed the nitromors formula in 2010 for new eu laws. i have acquired some of the active ingredient but its not thick like nitromors (literally i have pure dichloromethane in a vial). want to strip some more paint off my bb17 frame but want to thicken it up a bit so it doesnt just strip off. suggestions?

The best thing I have found to strip paint/powder coat off a frame is "gasket remover". It comes in an aerosol, can get it from most auto shops. Its normally used for removing gasket left overs on engine seals. Its not thick like paint stripper etc and looks like it will do sweet FA, but spray it on, and the paint literally falls off.
would shotblasting cure this baby?
