What's that, Walter?
Saturday is shabbas. Jewish day of rest. Means I don't work, I don't drive a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't handle money, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shit don't fucking roll!Sheesh.
Walter, how--
Shomer shabbas!

Badtmy (sp?) and aidan both used 'it's not rocket surgery' recently. This is my favourite saying *du jour.
*Its "Rocket Science" not Surgery...thought id point this out seeing as
triviality seems to be order de la jour..Gaa. Mixed metaphor ...
I note prav has started using it too, its spreading like wildfire, get me?

why the hell did i get onto this thread. geez, got a headache now
i'd like to see a celebrity death match. badtmy vs mugs followed by the main event chris crash vs hacked2
can we make it a drinking match?
i've heard the curryers in new york have started writing singlespeed brakeless. all the cool kids are doing it.

I'd wondered why I'd seen single speeds lately with no back brakes and had just figured they must be flip flops with no time for brake fixing. If you ride SS permanently, with no back brake out of choice you're either an ill informed poser or an idiot or both.

these anti-brakeless people, come to polo and see how well most brakeless riders control a bike.
lol great argument.

In the interest of hipster safety can someone please do an instructional vid along these lines on the proper techniques of fixed gear braking:

Hmmmm, beggining to wish I had stayed quiet.

well you know the rules
1 don't be an idiot
2 if you insist on being an idiot, don't get caught
3 if you insist on being and idiot, don't brag about it, and don't argue with people who tell your an idiot -

I guess I am an idiot then

That's a totally diff thing, and you know it.
There are some situations where brakes and braking are inappropriate.
I ride brakeless on the velodrome - and I would be very very unhappy if anyone was riding with a brake.
If I am riding in a bunch, or even in a small group, the last thing I want them to do is brake.
But neither of those situations is live big city traffic. I wouldn't sit on someone's wheel through traffic, and I certainly wouldn't ride without a front brake on my fixie. Bicycle polo maybe a contact sport, but it's not played with lorries and pedestrians is it?
It's just not appropriate. Ok, I know that some of you have madder skills than mine, and feel safer riding without, whatever.

There are two sides to every story but only one side to a pizza.

you can't make an omelette without braking a few eggs.
don't make a mountain out of a mole hill.
every cloud has a silver lining.
whta goes around comes around
the sun always shine on the good.
you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

All's well that ends well. Although you can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead.

Does it annoy you as much as it annoys me?
Do you agree with it at all?
More or less dangerous than riding brakeless fixed?
Personally I think front brake only is ridiculous, in an emergency you need a minimum of a rear brake to stop and change direction quickly whilst still being able to steer effectively, do you see any kind of professional bicycle racers running front brake only? These guys are some of the best in the world, and even they know that front brake only is suicide and rear brake only is safe, just look at bmx racers and many dual slalom riders...
It just winds me up that I see so many ss riders trying to imitate that fixed gear look by taking off their rear brakes thinking they look oh so cool, when they are massively putting their own and other peoples safety at risk. -

yeah it's stupid, but so are a lot of people.
that was the intent ;)
