I keep a powerful magnet in my back pocket, shrouded by a copper cage- when I need to stop really fast I pull the cage away and the powerful magnetism then draws me neatly to a stop.

I wondered yesterday, when I saw two hip dudes on their brand new creates, do some people remove the rear brake on SS's, just because 'everyone's doing it man'? That is to say, are SS riders removing their rear brakes, just because they see a lot of riders without a rear brake, without actually understanding that they have a fixed wheel?
Maybe. I saw a hipster-esque dude on a geared bike with no back brake the other day, you can't explain that using logic!

That did cross my mind but I didn't think you could have a coaster brake with gears? Or can you? (edit: google tells me yes, but only with internal gear hubs/special derailleurs?)
Even if you can, I wouldn't be so sure that he took that option.

it slows down your wheel so your legs don't have to. That's about it.

the rear brake is likely to explode and kill small children
-
• #1991
Yeah, it save your legs for the hills as sumo says.
Also you can drag the rear brake into corners whilst doing the whole free pedalling thing.
