• All hail Emperor Hippy ;-)

  • why does the emperor have new clothes?

  • I don't know, why did the emperor have new clothes?

  • because his old ones had a hole in the knee, which had been patched twice, but at some point he had to call it a day. So he went and got some new cloths from George at ASDA.

  • It loses something in translation.

  • I can't afford new clothes.. mocking bastards.

  • Hello,

forgive me if this has been asked many times before, I used the search but did not find a clear conclusion:

If you ride fixed gear in the city/in busy streets, and you want to have only one brake on your bike (apart from your legs, of course), would you put it front or back, and why?
My logic says front, as you have max brake force, and that's also what Sheldon Brown says ("There is really no need for a rear brake on a fixed-gear bicycle."), but during my research here I have seen that some people actually recommend the opposite due to handling reasons (lacking the actual explanation)?

    Cheers,
    icke

  • front.

front and back if you are unsure as you sound.

    /thread

  • Handling reasons = inept

  • Icke, you just answered your own question.

with front brake, you have two brakes (fixed included as one), which is legal and complied with UK law.

on a freewheel bicycle, a rear brake is recommended instead of a front IF you're insisted on riding with one brake instead of two (which is idea).

  • On a freewheel bicycle two brakes are recommended always.

  • not ideal. but the law.

    greatly idea

alright, why rear on a freewheel? isn't the max brake power issue the same?

  • Who cares? If you got a freewheel stick on front and back. If you're fixed, just front should do if you can ride proper.

  • rear on freewheel cos if you only have a front one you are likely to go flying over the handlebars! (should really have 2 on freewheel).

  • alright, why rear on a freewheel? isn't the max brake power issue the same?

Yes but you have no alternative if your front brake breaks.

  • run one in the middle off the chainring.

  • the law says you must be able to stop each wheel independtly, hence front brake+fixed rear

  • rear on freewheel cos if you only have a front one you are likely to go flying over the handlebars! (should really have 2 on freewheel).

that can't be the whole reason? would be just a matter of getting a good feeling for your front brake

  • Just fuck off.

  • fuck the right off!

  • What happen if the tarmac's wet? what happen if you went through a patch of gravel? etc. you can't always be sure regardless of how experience you are with your front one.

    who has you been researching?
