I like the idea VB,. I think is good that everybody knows who is helping out and who is not. Is funny to see people that are always posting and been the center of attention but later on they don't contribute to the forum
Posting is a contribution to the forum (unless it's in that fucking last post thread or most of Misc and Mean ;)) and you don't know their financial situation.
VB has never been one to hound people for donations if they can't afford it.

Nope, that's not the way to view it.
#1 Lack of gold star != lack of contribution.
Gold stars only represent those who have donated in the last 4 months who I have been able to identify.
However, even as time goes on this is not a basis for viewing those without stars negatively as some people have made donations of £100 prior to this system, and yet the minimum donation to get a gold star is only £5. So some people without stars have actually financially contributed far more than those with.
#2 Financial contribution is not the only contribution
big daddy wayne has helped with each round of shirts. anselm helps with party venues. tynan helps with artwork. The list goes on and is lengthy, and gold stars only recognise a financial donation and not the other types of contributions that are vital to the forum.
#3 There are more ways to financially contribute than a donation
Such as purchasing a T-shirt, that may well net a higher level of contribution than a £5 donation, but doesn't get you a gold star (you got a shirt instead).
#4 You don't have to donate
Those who can afford to and want to are encouraged to, but anyone who cannot afford to, or who simply doesn't want to should not be forced to. Donations are voluntary and not compulsory.
After all of that, then why? Because it is a way in which those who do donate can feel that their contribution is recognised, and the truer reason is that those who profit via the classifieds can be seen to be giving back some of their profit to help keeping the forum funded.
But it shouldn't be a basis for discrimination and I hope it won't be.
Someone else quoted the sneetches, and it's a good quote because ultimately they learned that the stars made little difference, and this is very true.

Just been trying to find my last donation, sure it was'nt that long ago.
My Paypal account is not connected to the same E-mail address as I've registered here though. So maybe it was'nt to my forum persona.
