those retro style ones are cool, remind me of military radio headsets.
ive got two sets of skullcandys, inner ear and headset with a bass booster. the bass booster has to heard to be believed, it sends vibrations through your jaw, most excellent.

Spend a little more.
I've had the same 2 pairs of Sennheisser HD25 SP for 15+ years or so. You can get replacement cables and earpads so as long as the drivers hold out they will go forever. The HD 25 seem to be industry standard in radio/tv broadcast monitoring. -

HD 25 for me, no noise leakage either, which is nice

For fashion statements WESC and Skullcandy make funky phones
In-ear I swear by Shure
But for over the ears there's only one pair I trust: Technics DJ1200s. Bought a pair in maybe '96/'97 and they lasted for ever with no sound degradation and little wear and tear. They served both as DJ and with mini-disc/cd walkman/ipod, before finally giving up the ghost last year. Replaced them but this time they only lasted six months before some chavs walked out my house with them, my ipod and my bro's xbox (it would have been more but I came back with the dogs in time to save the rest). The sound isn't sophisticated but it's loud, clear and has plenty of bass. And without peer or mixing, IMO

i actually dont like any of technics/senheiser/sure/ high end headphones for genral music listening. i think theyre almost over engineered and give a sterile sound. my dad has some £180 sure headphones, and while they are very clear and balanced, they also feel very flat. technics are loud but dont have great definition. obviously this is all subjective, but i think you can really get burnt spending big money on headphones that are only very marginally better.

I have for outdoors WESC and for indoors Grado. Inear I like Shure.

in ear I've got the shure e2c's I would take them over most headphones by a long way, if you really must have I'd go with the sennheiser hd25's, I've got two pairs at work and they are far and away the best headphones I've worked with, and with the cables and pads being replaceable, you can keep them up and running for years...

check out the Koss porta-pro
http://www.koss.com/koss/kossweb.nsf/p?OpenForm&pc%5Ept%5EPORTAPRO
They're far better than 90% of all sub-£100 cans and they're only about 25 quid.

I've got those Panasonics in green. They sounds pretty good, not exactly audiophile but decent bass and clarity.
Good thing is, you can go fairly loud before the person sat next to you on the train starts calling you a cunt.

sennheiser HD200
I got through FOUR replacement cables before I gave up - the jack plug don't stand up for being on the move

I was looking to import twenty five sets from HK to sell on eBay but EMS lost my sample in the post - I might reconsider if they are popular - they work well & look the biz

I have the WESC headphones - they are actually made my Senheisser - great bits of kit, especially the splitable cord cable which is great for biking/boarding etc as you dont need to have fuck loads of excess cable getting in the way

I do believe you can get a few other colours aswell of the WESC headphones

If i had the money i'd get these guys to build me some... http://www.headphile.com/
But i've been using my sennheiser HD265 for about 14yrs now and they're still my favourites....cost me about £170 when i bought them back then, but i've seen them for less than £100 nowadays...might buy a new set just incase mine ever give up.
I also used mine as a single cup on a custom made lollipop handle for DJing with. -

I have these Grado's (http://www.gradolabs.com/product_pages/sr60.htm). Excellent quality and build. I also have Bose in-ear's that are far better than any other in ears i have heard.

The Grado RS1 are the finest phones I've heard ever. the first time I heard them was with a Graham Slee solo head amp and I thought someone had left the speakers on that I was sat in front of. the imaging and tonality was spot on.
How soon?
