  • Those AKG are absolute shite. Look nice and fold well but the sound quality is awful. Not sure what whathifi were smoking that day.

  • I have ER2XRs. I prefer them to the 3XRs and 4XRs, as do many others. They are a single dynamic driver rather than balanced armatures in the 3 and 4, so they sound a bit more natural with music. I can wear them for that long. I would probably take them out once or twice in that time for a minute or so. At first, Ety's feel very strange as the triple flanges go very deep - so they're a bit marmite. Once your ears get used to it though, it all feels very normal.

I'd probably skip if you don't get on with in-ears.

  • Hmm, maybe not the AKGs then unless I find some cheap second-hand.

I don't mind in-ears for a few hours at a time but I'm not sure about 9 hours. If I don't find anything else I may give them a try though. They seem a fair bit cheaper in the US so may hold out until my next trip to get them (although when that will be who knows).

  • I ended up keeping these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MCY4UYM?ref=dacx_dp_2783316210302_1697883850502&me=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&aaxitk=ut-Y1wNZexS3iSsPTx.FJg&th=1&psc=1

I tested them side by side with the AKG and these were hands down better. More robust, better sound, look better.

You get a decent hard carry case too but it's a bit square.

Worth a try as you can always return to Amazon if you don't like them

  • New software's just been released today for the Sony headphones.

I'm going to wait for some reviews to come online and based on that, decide whether to update or not. Happened to me in the past an update resulted in a completely different pair of headphones (negatively) and there's no way to go back to the previous software version.

  • Yes, I read about that. I’ll await your say so to go ahead.

  • My bad, it's for the earbuds (WF-1000XM3) not the WH-1000XM3.

  • Any decent over ears? Price/quality? Had a quick look at some online retailers and fuck me noise cancelling bluetooth is expensive. Don't really need noise cancelling but probably do when wfh? Lessons have also gone digital here so don't want to fuck around with my 18euro chinese in ears for too long.

Left my beyerdynamic dt 770 at work :( They have been going strong for 7 years now!

Safe me from going into to dark hole of audio reviews...

  • See here: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/15135684/

Other than the comfort has improved and the battery life seems good I don't have anything else to add.

Obviously if BT and noise cancelling aren't important to you I'd look elsewhere.

I haven't tried to hook them up to my laptop and my work hasn't involved video chat, but for work calls they have been excellent.

  • My CA Andromedas are locked in the office and im very mad about it

  • Thanks! The same company does a lot of excellent headsets which will do the trick. Now I just have to try to figure out how to get them here fast.

  • probably do when wfh

    Is your house particularly noisy?

  • I have a 17 month old running around the house now.

  • Noise cancelling is more for steady noises (aeroplane, train, aircon, etc) than a child running around, etc

Decent noise isolation is probably more important (which you'll generally get with over ears)

  • So I can scratch that, just need to decide if I'll use them enough to see if wireless is worth it or not.

  • Ymmv but when I first got the oneodio I found the noise cancelling amazing in the office for removing 3 particular colleagues' telephone conversations.

But I don't use the noise cancelling at home because I worry about not hearing if something happens with my toddler or OH.

  • Does there exist anywhere a comparison of how well different noise cancelling headphones work in terms of pitch of sound?

I am interested in something that can cut out some of the low pitched bass sounds from a neighbour's music.

I'm not familiar with whether this is something they're generally good at, or generally mediocre at.

Edit: as @aggi says above I understand that noise cancelling in generally good for continuous sounds rather than intermittent.

  • Low frequency is where it's most effective but I've just tested my AirPods without music playing vs my Sonos playing something with bass and it basically cleaned it up and almost made it a little more pronounced.

Definitely quieter but the bass specifically was almost more noticeable. YMMV.

  • Damn, that was my fear! Thanks anyhow.

  • I realize this is probably a very niche thing, but Amazon US has Status Audio BT Transfer headphones at $20 down from $70 right now.

Picked up a pair to just to see what they are like

  • Ordered a pair of ath-r70x headphones. 470ohms.... Let's see if I can drive them

Just going for comfort for a whole day wear

  • Looked through the last 8-10 pages but not found the answer...
Recommended wireless, in earphones for running?
not too pricey please, I'm skint.

  • I just asked a similar question in the running thread.

  • Cool - I'll PM you if I make an progress :)

  • Cheers, likewise.
