  • some MTB's had threaded 1 1/8" headsets and quill stems

they will look shit on your road bike though

  • A 1 1/8" quill won't work, the threadless headset needs to be pre - loaded. You could use a 1 1/8" threaded headset but then you would need threaded forks.

  • It's totally possible to do this, I just worked out how. You need an old spanner, a rusty nail and an opera hat. You squeeze your opera hat dowm the steerer tube, bang it with the old spanner and gently poke your eyes out with the rusty nail. Easyer said than done I know but not impossible.

  • Wow you just worked out how to do it to -oan yersell!

  • Speak for yourself.

You still failed to see I wasn't in the least bit interested with your "answer" but you started getting arsey with the post I directed at Lynx.

You seem to have failed to see that I wasn't interested in your getting arsey with someone who provided a perfectly decent and civil answer in good faith to the the question, which might have even been helpful; ever thought of trying that, or is that not "manly" enough?

  • Please stop putting question marks at the end of your posts.

"Fuck the fuck off" might be the expression rpm wishes to use at this juncture, if I were him it would possibly be what I might be inclined to say.

He might not be interested in your not being interested, I certainly am not interested in your lack of interest in his factually correct assessment of this issue.

Just interested enough to bother to reply though. Step away from the keyboard Sir, your mom is approaching up the stairs....

Being the self-proclaimed punctuation-cum-temporal-denotation black-belt, you'll know I'm sure that we here on earth use them to signify a question. It's a quaint littl'old thing called grammar, is it not?

  • So her cancer riddled carcass has risen from the grave?

Are you Jesus? Did you resurrect her?

  • So her cancer riddled carcass has risen from the grave?

    1/10. Must be more inventive.

  • Your "mum" joke was piss poor and lacks any creative talen.

My mother is 3 years dead, so not inventive, its a fact.

And you still remain an idiot whose opinion counts for fuck all here, where as RPM actually knows a lot about cycling.

  • No really, I believe you, carry on. Few more expletives would aid the force of your argument while you are at it, but you're doing splendidly...

  • Your opinion counts for nothing here.

My use of expletives does not affect that at all.

I can't quite believe my luck. Of all the people I could have happened upon in this thread, I get the one chap who is sole arbiter of all. Gosh, what good fortune has befallen me, I really can't quite credit it! Thanks though, as now you've explained everything, it's all makes so much more sense! Not only that, but your own illuminating factual contribution to the thread has clearly benefited all and sundry to a literally unimaginable extent. I mean, just for those who missed the sheer brilliance of it, you opened with an absolute ripper:

    "Best thread in ages

Idiot asks dumb question and I don't have to get involved commenting on how stupid it is

    Whoops!".

Personally, I though you'd gone too early and lead with your aces, but - tish tut! - not a bit of it, you followed that up with a shed-load of quality information and fact and experience knowledge sharing that really is a glowing beacon of alturistic selflessness (and almost exhibition swearing: genius). Hats right off to you Sir!

  • you'll fit in well here

  • Guys, stop feeding the troll.

  • Sorry missed this thread. Hippy an inverse shim, is that like a long stand and tartan paint? Posting nonsense pictures is not helping. Point out what is wrong, the wrong kind of converter and get maybe getting the steerer threaded were helpful. Then there were pictures, opinion and mentions of downgrading. I would not expect banter on this forum.

I posted up my experience of that stem. Thats all, why RPM feels the need to comment I have no idea. But when some one gives an opinion and then gets called names and answers back in a similar fashion and he gets called a troll.

So definition of a troll here seems to anyone who answers any criticism or name calling that others start.

This is probaby not the best place for this and probably disappear up my own backside.

  • Lynx, when you were sent for the long stand and the tartan paint did you (when the penny finally dropped) return to your more experienced colleagues and berate them for having a go at you?
You just made a tit of yourself - twice.

I know you won't mind me saying this

  • I think we're getting sidetracked from the main issue here. The OP wants a stem to fit a 1.1/8" ahead steerer which nonetheless has the smooth aesthetic of old school quill stems such as the Cinelli 1R or XA. I think the answer is staring us in the face:

    Pro Missile Evo

  • the smooth aesthetic of old school quill stems such as the Cinelli 1R or XA.

Are you taking the piss? In what way is that similar to an "old school" quill stem?

  • Are you taking the piss?

    Was it not obvious enough?

  • Was it not obvious enough?

I must be having a bad day. Necks the rest of the Gordons
