Hi I'm new, spinning a 40 x 17. For me kudos goes to the ones who spin the fastest. Its supposed to be better for your fitness isn't it?

I've switched chainrings and moved from 48/16 to 42/16 and for a fatty boom boom like me that change has been a life saver. I'm now really enjoying it.

• #714
moved from 49/15, now on 42/15, switched cranks from 165 - 175
lovin it so far.

You can rotate your tires you know
Dangerous Advice Warning - do this and the logos on your tyres will no longer line-up with your valves; you've been warned.

Just swapped out my 44T to ride 46x17, the 13 miles have been great, 44x17 was just getting too spinny, bouncing around in the saddle does fuck all for your fitness.

new bike = new gear.
48 / 18 - free n easy

40/16 on my BMix, copes ok on the commute/pub run and can still ride off road on it.
Before that tried 33/16 could get up the steepest of hills, had a 36t chainring on for a while before that.

52/18 bombing around Basingstoke - über gear. I might drop a tooth to 17 to make 30mph a bit easier.

75.9" is hardly an uber gear..

running on 50/15
bit tough but good for the old legs aha -

44/22 today:
Max speed - 32mph
Cruising speed during 10 mile warm-up - 18.8mph
Averaging racing speed - 11mph

42 x 16 with 170 cranks and 700 x 23 tyres.
Cruises nicely at 18-22 mph, and up to 30 just about on the downhills.
A bit of a struggle up the daily 1 in 6, but manageable. If I lived in a completely flat area then I'd go up a bit, but seeing as I have the daily hill I don't want to kill myself.

Before 47/16 and now 48/18, because my frame isn't a tarc frame and this way I finally got the properly tensioned chain. It's good. Fast enough, but easy on my knees..

53/13 and a 52/11
I seem to cruse at about 18 mph nicely. Must admit pulling away from the lights is hard.
Top speed on a flat sprint 32 mph, at the back of the excel centre.
