I know but it's easier when you're not constantly pedalling and we don't know what Theukr's ride was like.
On some of the descents I did the poormans-freewheel (unclipping and heel-crucifix at seat-tube).

41/21 = hamster wheel ratio
Never been on a polo bike I take it. Mines 28/17 on 26" tyres and people ride spinnier.

There should be a poloers ride to Brighton...

• #1806
The 3.5 miles I ride to the court is plenty.

Although there are a few weirdos who like to ride far on them, Khornight is one.

Actually, he always says he'll ride, then gets the train last minute.

Sooo close to getting negged.
I rode to Brighton and Cambridge, Canterbury was the only one I chickened out off.
Although I do flip my wheel, 32x12 fixed, so it's not the ratio that's uncomfortable... It's the rest of the way the bike is set up.
Looking forward to the 120 miles to Bristol next month :)

Almost ;)
I'm driving down so could pick you up from the train station if you want. -

Someone rode a polo gearing jump bike to Dunwich during the DD.

I've been 48/18 on my mercian, 48/17 on the commuter bike. Just bought a 16t sprocket to go 48/16 for Herne Hill tomorrow - in hindsight should have gone 15 but hey ho

I have a spare 15t so if you're coming for the induction you can borrow it for the day.

• #1814
Needs 49t chainring....

Cheers, done the intro and onto 3rd basic session now. I'll just keep an eye out for a 15t as will prefer to have my own at some point. I'll just have to be a bit spinnier for an hour

Just put 46/16 on the fixie skidder, we'll see tomorrow how 'favourite' it is.
-
• #1817
Is that with a brake?
-
• #1818
It's with two brakes. The 'fixie skidder' moniker is ironic, it's a proper grown-up's bike really:

^really nice
they say 'spin to win'. I liked 48/16. could get up to quite a speed without breaking a sweat or panting too much. BUT my knees ached. So i changed to 48/18 which i've had since. knee ache stopped and never came back. but i feel like I'm having a heart attack (quite literally) and drip with sweat on arrival at college after my commute, even sometimes get an exertion headache if i get too excited en route. (none of these things seemed to happen 48/16). Why do i never get used to spinning even after many rides and months spent 48/18 ? (I'm healthy - run, walk, gym, cycle, eat well)
rant over dunno what i'm on about.

You'll get better at it, trust me.
I used to mash 53/18 and then I had to gear down so went for 48/19 it was hard a first but I just ended up dealing with it and now it's perfectly comfy.

You'd still need a brake.

^really nice
Even nicer now, with silver rims and Sheriff Stars (road hubs, suicide-styleee)

48/17 = good drop + skid patches^really nice

48/17 = good drop + skid patchesAgree (except I can't skid) with 48/17 is nice medium for getting going, top end and stopping without serious damage to knees.
Favourite gearing for sure. 18 too spinney and 16 around town is tough
