Kph is fine too, as long as it's in a smaller font next to the mph.

Or you're a forrun.

Or you're the best around and nothin's gonna keep you down...

@Lynchman
Sorry to drag up all the old dirt, but I have to aggree with you about larger/smaller gears & ratios. I have only been riding fixed for about 15years but I remember trying this out on my first proper racer (road bike) when I realised that some combinations of front/back gearing were the same ratios but they felt quite different. My theory has always been that with a longer chain you get more torque. -
• #1759
You might say that, I couldn't possibly comment...
-
• #1760
So if I had a track bike with 3 metre chainstays I could get up to full speed near instantly, even on a big gear?

Currently running a 48x17, previously run 46x17
Both feel under geared, just bought a 15t so I can run 48x15Is it a silly jump from 17 to 15?
-
• #1763
Yes, especially if this is what you run on the road.
If you can't deal with 48x17 on the road then either you're faster than most top cyclists or you need to learn to spin. -
• #1764
Not if 48/15 feels right... ;-)

"...If you can't deal with 48x17 on the road then either you're faster than most top cyclist."
You mean like you?

• #1766
Spin to win.
-
• #1767
Bear in mind I am commuting, not racing.
I am shit and spinning for time, I just want to increase my top speed a bit, with the same cadence.
I'll still have the 17 on the flop side of my wheel, if 15 is too much. -
• #1768
Well 48x15 is the recommended ratio for Herne Hill velodrome, that says enough doesn't it?
-
• #1769
Depending on your actual commute of course, while some might find it a bit too high, in my humble opinion 48/15 sounds fine. It's all down to trial and error really.
-
• #1770
Sounds fine if your commute is a long rolling hill with no and you get the train home to avoid climbing.
-
• #1771
So Indra, what gear ratio will you be going for on your Seta?
-
• #1772
I am shit and spinning for time.
If you're interested in riding further faster then gear down and work on your weakness for a few months. Move up tooth in the summer when you're spinning better.
-
• #1773
i rode 48x16 for months before i realised (thorti t was 48x18) but i didnt skid then
-
• #1774
So Indra, what gear ratio will you be going for on your Seta?
51x19 :)

Is it a silly jump from 17 to 15?
Maybe, the difference is bigger than you think.
Go down 16 and see how you get on.
