  • Happy to go with more spokes. Can you guys get silver Kinlin rims though? That's the bit I'm struggling with. Well, that and now I'm trying to track down 20/24 silver Miche hubs.

  • Nope only black.

  • Is there a go to wheelbuilding book please? I didn't utfs- sorry.

  • Yes i have loads of them in black and i have a few oairs of miche track hubs in those drillings coming as race team needs a set of track wheels for one of there riders.

  • I can get the silver hubs. I need to get them on the site. Currently same drilling pairs from the u.k distributor but from the factory all drillings are availble but with a longer lead time. Most of my miche kit comes from the miche factory now.

  • Just bought some of those silver Kinlins so yep, if you can get 20/24 in silver I'll take a pair.

  • Where did you get the silver kinlins from? Orders need to be placed with the shop.

  • Hey, got a link to those silver kinlins plz?

    Edit--^malcolm beat me to it

  • Superstar Components Arc22 and Arc31 are Kinlin XR22T and XR31T.

    30% off until tonight too.

  • Thanks :)

  • ACI double butted spokes are £0.21 a piece. Made in Italy, so no Chinese on/off quality spokes.

    I have built with ACI aero spokes and Archetypes, built into a strong and true wheel.

    Of course Sapim/DT Swiss are good too, just more ££££ unless you get lucky on ebay and there is a sale in just the right length :)

    EDIT and the cycleclinic on here has spokes of course

  • Meh!

    Finally got around to ordering a stand, dishing tool and nipple driver from Webbline.

    Instead of the advertised driver, I only appear to have part of another one.

    The wheel dishing tool is materially different from the advertised one (the machined centre gauge is now a piece of box section) and the fabrication is "crude" to say the least (yes, that is weld).

    Again, the stand is materially different from the one advertised (instead of polished tube, the horizontal spars are painted square rod) and the fabrication and finish is very poor.

    But whereas the dishing tool is at least functional, the stand isn't:

    • the gauges are unfinished, so will damage rims;
    • the horizontal spars aren't (when secured) parallel to each other, so the gauge support isn't necessarily parallel to the axle;
    • the gauge support cannot be secured in place and is loose on the spars;
    • the axle holders are loose in their guides so don't keep the wheel stable;
    • the holes in the axle holders for the axles, aren't drilled centrally so the wheel isn't necessarily vertical in the stand, dependant upon the position of the rotation of the holders relative to each other.

    So much for supporting small, independent businesses.

  • Eeewwwww, that is nasty welding. Makes rather a mockery of their claim of 'outstanding 'Build' quality'. Maybe that's why they have the word 'Build' in quotation marks.

  • "Agricultural" would be a compliment.

    What is so disappointing, is that Alf and Teresa have been around a long time, not your typical cash-in cowboys: they're NVQ assessors and nice people to boot.

  • Makes me feel better about the welding on my homebrew stand:

  • shutupandtakemymoney

    Plz.

  • That is a good stand you have there. If you have that why buy one?

  • Well superstar are charging quite a bit for the decal. I know how much kinlin charge for each rim. I will be buying in bulk direct next year.

  • Well superstar are charging quite a bit for the decal.

    They're currently a fiver cheaper per rim than thecycleclinic.co.uk for the XR22t. OK, so that's with the 'Black Friday' 30% off code, but superstar seem to have discount codes running pretty much permanently.

  • Potential wheelbuild:

    Pacenti SL25 32h rims

    SON dynamo front

    DT Swiss 350 rear

    CX ray spokes

    will be used for long distance riding/touring and some gravel/fire road stuff too.

    92kg rider...

    thoughts/advice? They will be thru-axlebut should I go for 6bolt or centerlock?

  • thoughts/advice?

    CX-Rays are a waste of money if you're not racing. Use Sapim Race or DT Comp for stiffer stronger cheaper wheels, or even Alpine III for even better durability as you're fairly big and going off road

    should I go for 6bolt or centerlock?

    I'd go 6-bolt given the choice, nobody knows how long it will be before Shimano has yet another change of mind and you're stuck with another obsolete proprietary "standard".

  • Helpful - ta. Although just seen that Hunt will be releasing a dyno wheelset soon.

  • I did have them at £35 before brexit but i currently buy from a uk source that has put up there price by 20%. Superstar may be selling pre brexit bought stock for all we know.
