  • Haven't build a wheel in 6 month, I will turn this into a 24h 2 cross frontwheel on novatec track hubs with comps. 60mm 26.5mm wide 20r/28 2x carbon track wheelset on low flange Mack hubs is next.

  • "bolt on axle for A291SB" Google doesn't help me. What parts do I need to convert the hub to bolt on?

    If you tap the side caps to accept M6 bolts, you'll be cutting into the 5mm hex needed for hub disassembly. A bit like the modern Hed3s, it doesn't look practical to convert other than by use of an Allen key skewer.

  • I'm using all NJS components on the bike (except the rims as I want clincher). Hence the need for NJS spokes.

  • If you've avoided tubs then you're not building a complete njs build so why search for njs spokes? If I were you I'd have a wheel set to use that isn't complete njs and if you want something showy get full njs tubs.

  • Nothing at all, but if you're going to do it, do it properly, not fixating on an arbitrary midpoint between matchy and non-matchy.

  • The only NJS spokes are Hoshi, and they are only available in 305mm for a 4 cross build on Araya gold tub rims and high flange track hubs.

    I'm planning to rebuild a rear hub that was done 4 cross. Not sure about lacing, does it matter? Under Under Under Over or Under Under Over Under?

  • I'm hunting a mid 90s 1" ahead stem in 26...though as I've no idea what stem the original build came with, so perhaps that's also somewhat arbitrary...

    Do you still use aliexpress rims ala -> 60mm x 26.5mm carbon rim or have you found a better type/seller? How is the quality?

  • Yes I haven't found anything better/cheaper - been building 50, 60 and 88mm from this seller.

  • So I am completely lost in the world of 11 Speed road disc compatible hubs (135mm spacing).

    Options are seriously limited as far as I can see? Can anyone recommend anything or know of anything I have missed? Budget is £150ish for rear only (will have a dynamo front).

    Novatec D712 (will work, but building a reasonably nice set of wheels and being disc they will last so thinking it might make sense to chose a better hub to start with)
    Chris King (no chance I can afford)
    DT Swiss 240s (though I'm not 100% on this)
    Hope pro 4 ( seems like the only viable option, though not 100% this will work with 11 speed road cassette)

    Only the cross closest to the rim should be interlaced, so the outbound spokes lie over the inbound ones for the three inside crossings then dive under for the outermost one. Even that much interlacing is more tradition than science, but it does help to keep the rear derailleur out of the spokes if the driveside rear is laced with the pulling spokes inbound.

  • I know i'm not building a complete NJS bike. That was never the aim. I just think it's cool to have all the parts NJS bar the basic conditions i've set out on the build. I want a good weather long distance flashy 24" lo pro. Two things I have to accept, clinchers and a 70's TT frame. The rest can be NJS.

    This is the bit we don't get. You're not going Keirin racing in Japan, and you're not even building a bike which would let you do that as some kind of statement. Why make your bike worse just to have a funny little stamp on bits of it?

    NJS is strictly an all-or-nothing deal. Once you deviate even slightly, you might as well select every component for quality, value and convenience, and you'd end up with no NJS stamps anywhere on the bike.

  • Or even NJS-except-the-wheels, which at least has a certain level of (in)consistency. But NJS spokes to non-NJS rims? Madness. Still, if it makes you happy, @Husy, then go for it. I'm a lover not a hater. Still think it's a bonkers idea though.
