There's not much meat-on-the-bone with wheelbuilding: I doubt there's the price of a packet of luxury biscuits twixt the ten best in the country.
If you're paying for hand-built, then cost is (within reason) the least of your considerations.

I've got a Powertap SL+ track hub built onto an H plus Son Archetype for my fixed-but-no-mudguards road bike. It hasn't exploded yet.

If I have a brand new 32h (also avail in 36h) hub, is it ok to skip every second hole on the NDS to make a 24 spoke wheel (16:8 spoke pattern)?
-
• #3855
You'll have a weak side, no matter what, any particular reason to do this?
-
• #3856
My wheel builder isn't available and I need my road wheels (DA9000 on Archetypes) rebuilt with new rims.
Who should I be talking to in London? Central ideally, but happy to travel for quality work.

is it ok
It's not really OK, but you certainly wouldn't be the first person to do it, either 32 hub to 24 rim or 36 hub to 24 rim is possible. You end up with weird spoke lengths and probably some residual torque in the hub shell (i.e. the DS spokes are trying to turn it one way and the NDS are resisting) although Damon Rinard claims his 36:24 pattern has no hub torque, and he usually knows what he's talking about.

I'll have to run some calcs to check that, I was worried about hub torque and uneven tensions.

Agreed not my primary concern, more quality and time. My last set took 3 months to build, and I'd want these for December 2015. Just need to find a reasonably priced G3

TLCW have some Archetype in stock and can build it fairly quickly (base near clapham junction).

I can't remember how long the PT took, but it certainly wasn't three months.
One of my customer's had a wheelset built in September: looks like they were ordered on the 9th and were delivered to me on the 22nd.

Yes they new ones are just fine with any rim. the old version needed a deep stiff rim with a decent spoke count. Powertaps are easily got by any shop with a Paligap account for an online price so no need to pay retail anywhere.
Second is good if its in good order. Also you dont have to pay £70 for a freehub they use a Novatec type B2 body which is alot less if you know where to look (there is one distributor which no one seems to think of).

I'd hardly call Twix a luxury biscuit ...
But srsly what a good observation. Labour costs are so low in cycling if you fuss about prices you're missing the point.

Your a luxury biscuit.
I'd rather cheaper components, than try and short-change the guy who's work will be keeping my face off the tarmac...

Thanks for the suggestions all, much appreciated.

Was just about to post that as it came up on Hacker News front page as well - major wheelgeekery!
Thanks, probably the reassurance I need, does Malcolm do LFGGS friendly prices?
