  • Have someody tried those rims? Is these any good?

Has you tried Google? Are it able to answer your question?

What is you use and weight? Some wheel builders do not recommend them at all for riders over 85kg. But like Tester said have a Google, there is a lot of comment out there .. especially on the WW forum

I weight 60kg, so that is not problem. Use is on street riding on every day to work and on the track also. Would build these with Revos on 3x pattern. Yea, I have tried Google and WW also. I coudent find noting bad about them, but i was interested these on fixie, durability and etc.

Seem like an odd places to use weightweenie rims.

  • anyone know a shop that can get Velocity rims in any size?

Velocity do just about all of their rims in 40h, but persuading a shop to actually order one in is a bloody nightmare! Also it'll likely come in at full RRP £45-60, rather than the £15-30 that you normally see on the label because of the one off nature, which is fair enough, but please, just somoene order me one!

  • don't BLB import velocity / are the main dealer in the UK for velocity ?
    Brick Lane Bikes

  • When lacing a [front] hub for radial spoking, is it better to run the spokes from outside to inside, or inside to outside, or does it matter?

    Ta.

Quick question: if building a front wheel with radial spokes, do the spoke heads need to on the outside of the hub flange, the inside, alternate or does it not matter?

    Ta.

    ?!?!

  • Heads in is marginally stiffer, but I'd ask the hub manufacturer for recommendation if it's a modern hub as they might have a preferred orientation.

  • I 'm having some difficulties to decise how many spokes I shoud go with and about the lacing pattern also. I will gona use low flange hubs and 30mm aero rims.

Rear wheel: 28 or 32 spokes? I think that hese will go on 3x pattern, but maybe 3x would work also?
Front wheel is bit more difficult.. I might want some lower spoke amount and radial pattern in front. What I shoud go with? 20, 24, 28?

  • It would help if you told us what they are for and how much you weigh

  • what is your weight?
what kind of riding are you going to do? beater, track, road....

  • What are you using the wheels for?

28 can be fine for a rear (I'd go 3x) but I wouldn't want it as a daily use wheel.

Personally I don't like front spoke counts that don't match front and rear (but thats probably just me).

  • I weight about 55kg.
I ride it with on road most of the time but sometimes I also use it on track.

  • 55kg?! low spoke count is fine. 20 front will be fine I'm sure.

  • Man, thats like 8 stone!

  • At that weight and with 30mm rims, you could easily go 24h 2x F&R, it's what I've got on my lo pro and I'm way heavier than you. After all, Ellipses are just 30mm rims, and they are as tough as old boots with only 20 spokes, albeit that the spokes are pretty heavy duty.

  • Ok, thanks. I think that i Will go with 28h 3x in Rear and front 24h in radial or 2x.
Actually the rims are 27mm, but I think that dosen't matter. So it's will end like something like this (Looks good to me)

How about will that setup fork some hevier rider in the future if I want to sell the wheelset on some day?

  • Sorry, don't really understand that last sentence. That wheelset would be probably be ok for someone my weight I reckon (86kg) but possibly not for everyday use/commuting.

I built a Hope hub radial once. It was old but not that old (and Ti!). It snapped at the flange before I'd even used it (it sat on my desk for a few days and just pinged one day - waiting on a rear to build up). Tried to see if Hope would warranty it. They said they wouldn't as it was built radially and 'Hope hubs are never meant to be built radially' - I've built them that way since (customer's orders, despite my warning) and they've been fine. Just warning you that it could invalidate your warranty.

  • Ok, what if I want to use some 22mm rims, is then better to make those 3x F&R?

  • Anyone good at servicing cup and cone bearings in London?

My RS80's are feeling a little sluggish! Defo some beer money in it.... Pm me.

    I meant 32h 3x F&R?

  • 32h 3x is an standard wheel, lots of road bike and lots of fixed have that

  • For a 55kg rider, 28h f&r will be fine with Open Pro or similar.

Just ordered 32h and 24h rims. I hope it will last. Rear will be 3x and front in radial.
