I'm in Sydenham, SE London. Hundreds of spokes in stock. Just drop me a message and I can rebuild it for you.

I’ve a pair of DT Swiss C1800 can you buy the 370hubs, I can’t find any. I need to switch to xdr not sure the freehub can be swapped?

What are you starting with? You can definitely switch from 12/142/XDR to 12/142/HG11, although oddly there doesn't seem to be kit listed to go the other way. I think you just need kit HWYABX00S7711S which is the XDR freehub body and the corresponding end cap

I think it’s what they call 370 Spline in 12/142/HG11
All the ones I can find seem to be for 350s and up -
• #11581
Might need this one, HWRABM00S8111S
Hmm not sure if it’s worth it
-
• #11582
Might need this one
That's just the freehub body, the part number I gave includes the end cap, which is presumably not the same end cap as your HG11 hub already has

Ah ok. Thank you!

Any recommendations for 650b rims (and/or vendors), rim brake 32h. Ideally black
-
• #11587
Probably these if they were in stock: https://thecycleclinic.co.uk/collections/rims/products/borg31-kinlin-xr31t-650b-bicycle-road-cx-tubeless-compatible-rim
Maybe less so at Spa price: https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m20b0s116p3831/KINLIN-XR-31T
I had some of these in silver but never built them up, seemed ok, nothing special, cheap: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/rims-tape/32-thorn-275-650b-584-rim-w-cnc-sidewall-black/

Yeah I think the SJS ones are likely what I'm going to go with, it's for a commuter so I don't want to splash too much cash on it. Thanks for the suggestions 👍

Hey, i am planning to build two disc gravel wheelsets. Intended use is daily business on road and gravel as well as loaded bikepacking. I have a few questions about spokes and lacing:
1st set:
rider weight: 68kg
alu rims
28h
DT swiss 350 hubsRegarding spokes, I am contemplating whether to choose CX Ray or Sprint?
2 cross lacing seems to be the norm is that correct?2nd set:
rider weight: 86kg
Light Bicycle WR35 oder WR45
Hope Pro 4 or 5 hubs
32h or 28hIs 32h overkill on a carbon rim?
Is 3 cross the norm for 32h?Thanks

Not if you're riding hard, 29er MTBs usually have 32 spokes after all. I wouldn't bother with aero spokes though, unless you're in some pretty serious races.

Use normal double butted spokes for the alloy wheel, aero for the deep carbon set, if anything. Don't need 32h in a road wheel, 2X for 28h

Don't need 32h in a road wheel
Maybe not, but it wouldn't hurt for a 86kg rider doing loaded bike packing on gravel🙂
In general, the only advantage of lower spoke count is a tiny and completely irrelevant weight saving (and if you were a weight weenie, I suspect the Dymaxion wheel structure would be lighter rims and more spokes), and a reduction in drag which is only big enough to matter if you're racing. On bikepacking, you'll save more by tucking in your bag straps than you will by going from 32 round spokes to 24 aero ones.

Has anyone ever used the Velodrome Shops Own Brand Hubs? (https://www.velodrome.shop/track-hubs/velodrome-shop-track-cycling-hubset/ ). Looking to build some wheels, deciding between these hubs and some slightly more expensive DT swiss hubs (https://www.velodrome.shop/track-hubs/dt-swiss-track-cycling-hubs/ ). Anything more expensive than this isn't really in scope for me
Will the spoke count (20/24 in the DT swiss vs 32 or higher in the Velodrome shop hubs) make more of a difference than the quality of the hubs (i'm expecting the DT swiss ones to be better quality)? I'm aiming to build the wheels for track racing , so want a decent amount of stiffness

"own brand" means Taiwanese OEM. Just buy Novatec (or KT or Formula or even Sturmey-Archer, but Novatec are the easiest to find)
20/24 is fine for track racing unless you're really big

• #11595
Also, caveat emptor if you're shopping at velodromeshop

I'm roughly 80 kg, got some miche pistards at the moment, but hoping to build a carbon race pair with these hubs. So would you go Novatec over DT Swiss then @gbj_tester ? And is there anything to be said about forwards compatibility, say i wanted to upgrade to Dura Ace/something nicer, which tend to have 32 spoke count from what I can tell, stops me from needing new rims
-

You don't. Unless you like jewellery, in which case knock yourself out. There is literally no benefit to any hubs more expensive than Novatec. If you're at the level where fractions of a Watt matter, you wouldn't be using spoked wheels to start with. You can change the bearings in the Novatec hubs to SKF E2 if you want to spend some money making your hubs very slightly faster and not weatherproof.

I have a set of brand DT track hubs you can have for £140 if you decide to go down that route. Or build you a complete wheelset with them.
-
• #11599
Okay fair enough, thanks , so seems like Novatec > more or less everything, value wise.
So considering only novatec, 32 vs 20/24, is 32 overkill? Hoping to lace them to some 80 mm carbon rims, how much of a stiffness difference will it make? Or is it really not noticeable?

They're not, there are at least two circles of hell below even the Shimano OEM hubs you've never heard of.
