  • A friend of mine has a set of ratty 350s SP hubs I am thinking of stripping or de-anodizing as I want to build op a nice silver set of wheels for my neo-retro Vitus. Have not seen a strip of hubs done before and cannot really find anything on the www.

First issue that comes to mind is the SP spoke holes, would be near impossible to clean.

Should I just get silver Bitex instead?
I like that all my wheels have DT Swiss hubs :(

  • First issue that comes to mind is the SP spoke holes, would be near impossible to clean.

That's what pipe cleaners are for.
If you're thinking of caustic treatment, make sure you mask the bearing bores. Taking 25μm off the outer surfaces to deanodise is fine, taking 10μm out of a small bearing bore can be the difference between a press fit and a rattling disaster area.

  • On the subject of shiny hubs - for 32h disc options are Bitex Bx106 the best bet for the money or am I missing any others? Other than hope obvs

  • why are manufacturers so incapable of measuring things?!

Ordered a hub / rim / spokes, going off the manfacturer hub spec, the PCD is 5mm smaller than IRL... so now we wait for more spokes ..!

  • why are manufacturers so incapable of measuring things?!

TBF the most repeated phrase in this thread is measure stuff yourself.

  • 100% just trying to make one order for the parts due to high shipping costs!

  • Yeah, that's why most people (me included) risk it.

  • managed to get supplier to send out replacements foc, due to incorrect info! so not all is lost to faffing.

  • Win, count yourself lucky.
I long ago stopped doing all in one orders for wheel builds.

  • most of the time im building stuff I have in hand, know, or a combination of stuff I have measured so its no issue! just trying to balance stuff when its an unknown

  • Hello, can anyone please give me a definite answer on the ERD of the new Mavic CXP pro? As usual I've looked online and found three separate answers.. thank you

  • Measure the ERD yourself, it's the only way you can be sure.

    Mavic CXP pro

Wow Mavic are really swimming against the tide with that rim. 15mm internal, MSW, tubeless unready. And even comes in retrogrouch flavoured 36h!

  • It's not really new. It's the 'new' name for the old CXP33, after Mavic changed the name in 2016. And the CXP33 was introduced at roughly the same time that the dinosaurs collectively lost the will to live.

  • Thanks, yeah I did measure it myself in the end. I think if I remember right it was 596mm but anyway it all worked out fine. I thought cxp pros were 23mm wide and effectively mavics answer to the archetype, but no... They are in fact still cxp33's.

  • I thought cxp pros were 23mm wide

Only 90 degrees out. They're 23mm deep. Give or take a bit of a mm. Not bad rims though, albeit a bit skinny for today's tyres.

  • Honestly I would have gone with archetypes but I wanted black and I run brakes on this bike. My TB14's are fantastic

  • When’s 20 inches not 20 inches… when finding rims! why is a 20” rim 391/407/4xx erd?!? And why would halo sell a 20” bmx rim that’s different from their halo bmx rims with the same name, one being 407 and one being 391… 🤦‍♂️

Any suggestions for a nice black 20” rim to build onto a dynamo hub for Omnium cargo bike. Currently have a Halo Sub4 which works just fine, but they don’t make them any more in the right 20” size…

  • You must be new here, standards were never us.

  • New to small wheels yes! “Normal” 700c/26er/29er at least only have one erd for their respective sizes (although why one is metric and the others imperial still confused me)

  • 700c/29er

There are at least three different 26" rim sizes, more if you include all the 650s which are just as much 26" as any of the English and American varieties.

  • Well there you go, learn something new every day!

  • Are they still selling Omniums with 451 front wheels or are the newer models 406 now?

  • Mines a V2 cargo max (I think) and used a 406
