Discrepancies between qualifications were therefore also articulated in a much more corporeal way, in terms of safety awareness and standards. The perception that migrant workers take greater risks on site, however, led some British workers to question not only their willingness but also their *ability *to follow health and safety precautions:
We’re told that the foreign guys are all qualified to the same level as us regarding safety, so pleading ignorance is no defence, you only have to watch them at work to know they don’t have the same understanding of site safety as us, it’s glaringly obvious. (‘Darling’, Bear Facts forum, 21/2/2009)
The concerns about the skill, experience and qualifications of migrant workers is a genuine one often based on fears over the dangerous working practices ignored (or even encouraged) by employers. However, it regularly becomes imbued with discourses of national pride in British construction workers being the “best trained workforce” on the market (‘one one eight’, Bear Facts forum, 26/6/2009). In turn, not only do attitudes towards the working practices of non-British workers become racialised through hierarchies of skill and safety but also the government and business arguments around skill shortages are perceived as the exact opposite of the experiences of the workers themselves.

Childhood Obesity is a strategic priority for NHS Walsall and a problem for many areas of Walsall. It is a large agenda which needs to be tackled at many levels by various agencies in Walsall and by the families of Walsall themselves. There is a huge prevention aspect to this problem, but also a ‘treatment’ aspect which is for families where obesity is identified as a problem, for example, through the Child Measurement Programme.

Woah, I've never met anyone with the same surname as me. (No, really, nobody. Mother and brother have stepfather's name, never met father).
