• dogsballs
hippy How is that NJS build? Surely all that gold shit isn't NJS? I thought they only allowed silver and champagne components and those cranks are US-made.
Are Paul Comp NJS? I'm 'guessing' no? The DeepV and the spoke pattern.. is there anything on that bike NJS? :)

supposedly the black sugino 75 crankset is not NJS because it's black??? WTF, yet champagne, silver are..
Everybody knows black is faster though. That's why it's not NJS. Gives an unfair advantage.

Yeah, you'd think this kind of thing would make people realise that NJS doesn't equal best. But, nope.

The black 75 ain't NJS cos it's anodised and therefore not the same as a 75.

The champagne 75 is a Grand Mighty, and is certified as such.

I'll say it loud and I'll say it proud:

    I LIKE NJS

It's heavy and old-fashioned. Like me.

  • Whoa! I was just reporting an opinion that had been voiced this side of then pond. Don't know what the fashions are in London nowadays, but over here it's NJS frames with crazy anodized groups all the way, hence the cusses on it. I think the reasoning seemed to be 'why fit out an entry-level frame with high-end parts'.

As I said, other than my own personal issues with gold pretty much anything, I think it looks smooth. Hell, I ride a Fuji Track myself.

Although I have a friend with the Paul Cranks that had a bit of an issue - cranks and chainring steel, supplied crank bolts alu. T-h-r-e-e-a-a-d.

    They replaced 'em, but still...

  • I did the electrical tape manouvre on my Fuji Track last night and it worked out alright. The top tube is perfect. The down tube is good but up close there are a few wrinkles. I did on of the rear triangle tubes but didn't do the rest because I couldn't be bothered taking the wheel off. I'll probably just leave it for now but will eventually sort it out properly. I just wanted to get rid of the big white logos. I'm not a huge fan of the black but it'll do me until I can afford / justify ad Bob Jackson

  • just change all the bits inc. frame and forks

  • and then buy a custom built cinelli olympic pista

  • Here's my fuji with a part respray, flipping the bars and some spokey dokeys.

  • I thought the Fuji was white to begin with. Looks good though.

  • spokey dokeys!

  • tallsam I thought the Fuji was white to begin with. Looks good though.

Cheers, it was blue though, the dark blue bit at the front is from the original spray job, I just masked it off, then sprayed the back half light blue (covering the black and white logos and dark blue rear).

Spokey Dokeys rule, I've added a few more since this photo was taken, beats spoke cards any day in my book!

  • horrible saddle. real ballcrusher.

  • peejay78 horrible saddle. real ballcrusher.

Say it like it is mate. Maybe he's got a MUSSY?

  • i think Londonfgss spokey dokeys are the way forward.
    That'd be awesome.

  • A bit off topic but those sleek handle bars about 1 foot long, where do you get them from? or are they just normal handlebars chopped up with a hacksaw?

  • you got it in one megaman

  • megaman2016 A bit off topic but those sleek handle bars about 1 foot long, where do you get them from? or are they just normal handlebars chopped up with a hacksaw?

yep, flipped them over, took a hacksaw to them and bought some new tape

  • Hi all. Thanks to bazookaboy (Chris) on STW putting me onto this place. Apparantly I qualify for London by squeezing onto the end of the Central Line (Epping Forest - Loughton)! :-)

Anyway spent all day trawling back through loads of great info on here. Looking to get a 700c fixie for the road, always been a MTBer and sole bike (bar my old '92 Clockwork) is a Chameleon SS as below - ridden it fixed off-road a few times but it's better free'...

Narrowed the choice down to a Fuji Track or Lemond Fillmore. I had a Surly 1x1 once but a build on the Steamroller is going to be silly £'s next to the Fuji which having checked stuff here looks an unbeatable deal, especially the 2008 model. Looks like it comes with better stem etc now - I am thinking eBay the wheels/tyres, chainset and BB and replace with slight up-spec, flip and chop the bars, bung on a Charge Spoon saddle and brown tape, and a Campag chainset as on my old Chameleon.

Does anyone know when the 2008 Tracks will be available and what price?

Are there any braze ons bar the obvious rear cable stops under the top tube?

And size wise at just under 5'9" with 31ish inseam (80cm) the 52 with a 54 tt looks ideal - what do others think?

  • Hi Max, Welcome!

Can't comment on the Fuji, but I like the way you've set your Chameleon up - smart.

  • the fujis are brilliant.

but it might not be the best practice to swap all the major parts out straight away..

I dunno, depends how much you get for the bits I suppose..

  • welcome!! i am probably much more of a n00b than you: been riding old bikes (as in decrepit) for the past little while, finally got myself a singlespeed about a month ago and went fixed within a day and a half. personally, i got the lemond fillmore and think it's great; don't know much about the fuji but there's loads of people on here with them who can give you advice i reckon.

  • i think the 2008 is gonna be a while yet karl from biddle was saying on the fuji track thread

  • i love my fuji. i can't believe how light and quick and nimble it is. sometimes i ride it instead of my bob jackson, out of choice. how weird.

  • they've really toned down the decals, which is a good thing.

  • I've got a nice Fuji Track. I'm happy with it but I've not had much exposure to good components so can't really complain about the chainset etc. What you've described as your action plan sounds pretty good to me.
