  • Hey, new member here, looking for some help re: this bike.

I am going to order one this week (for my 10 mile trip commute, 4/5 times a week) and want to change the following components, if anyone has any ideas on good kit to buy or places online to order from that would be great:

Bars, I want to fit some risers, not too bothered about brand.
Stem, something short and more suited to the risers.
Front brake and lever, dirty harry?
Freewheel to put on the other side of the hub.
Pedals, I'm thinking of some plastic odysseys for now with some powergrips.

So, anyone know of some good components I should be looking at? I know the bike sells for around £300 to £350 and I would love to bring the bike in as close to £400 as possible!

  • Google is your friend... but, since you asked so nicely...

LBS, Halfords and Ebay for cheap risers. don't believe the hype and spend £30 on these. Steel risers for £7 are great.

You might want to ride with the stock stem for a bit to work out what length/drop your after no?

Parker International are cheap for sets of Campag Mirage brakes (£20). Tektro are also good and cheap. Your LBS will have cables for £10 (Shimano 105 probably). You'll need front and rear brakes if your planning to run a freewheel.

Evans cycles aren't good for much but they sell Powergrips online for £15 delivered! Which is good. I'm using a set on my daily at the mo'.

    Hope this helps.

  • Does anybody ride one or know anyone who does as i considering buying one and need advice: Are they any good, value for money?, etc
    Thanks
    Gabe

  • if you click on the search button above, you will see several excellent threads on the fuji track.

they are generally considered to be a good bike for the money.

  • There's a thousand threads on this bike already- but there are a bunch of them in Cambridge, come to the Thursday ride tomorrow and I'm sure Matt (actualmatthew on here) or Steff (think he has one?) will let you have a go.

  • Good light bike. And if you need a large size biddle bikes still have 61cm fuji track 2008 for cheap

  • I do have one (and had another that was nicked) but I'm back in London now. They strike as excellent VFM - pretty much as good as any steel OTP but for not much more than half the price. Worth budgeting for a new rear cog though - 48x15 will get you down if you have to deal with hills or carry any weight (or both).

  • Never heard of them.

  • Good light bike.

Not really. I thought mine was light but compared to most other bikes it's not. It's still much lighter than a Charge Plug though.

Buy one, get a 105 brake, cross-top lever, 18T cog and a new set of tyres and inner tubes. You'll be golden.

  • IME, the stock tyres are surprisingly good. The ones on the nicked bike were on their way out after six months of Whitechapel-Soho commutes but didn't puncture unusually often or give me any Gatorskin-esque moments in the wet. I'm a non-skidder, though, so easy on tyres.

  • really? i found the stock tyres to be terrible,

Really plasticy and loads of punctures, i would definitely recommend swapping out asap after buying.

i didn't say it was light in comparison with every other bike thats ever been produced.

There is no denying though that it is light for what it is.

Everyone else seems to hate them, but I've found them bearable. Nothing to write home about but OK on a commute bike until they wear out. The Gatorskins, meanwhile, languish with some Rubino Pro Techs in the "only if desperate" spares pile after too many uncommanded slides on the road bike.

  • Alright! Cheers guys

  • Just ordered mine, pick it up next week (had to order a 52 cause im a short arse!

got some risers for it and brakes, cant wait!

  • The tyres are the same as any OTP bike.

The fuji Track itself is comparable with Langster/Bowery and is a lot cheaper.

Put a 14t on it and it's great fun.

  • I ride a track and it's awesome. I changed the tyres, saddle, drops (to less 'square' ones...) rear cog etc.

I got mine originally from winstanleys for less than £300.

Steff and I had a chat about our differing opinions on the tyres etc on the last thursday ride in Cambridge and if you are around next thursday you're more than welcome to have a ride around on mine to see if you like it. Or come down to polo on Sunday!

    +1

  • This bike looks really cool, I'm considering it as well as my first bike. This or converting myself, a conversion is probably cheaper, but on the other hand, here more or less nothing can go wrong construction-wise. (at least for me, who has NO experience in bicycles)
It's sold for 319£ or something at ridelow.co.uk..!

Er, couple of things, the Track is steel and in that sense is quite a different ride to the ally Langster and Bowery. Plus it comes with a 15t as standard, which some find too high for general road use with the 48t on the front, putting a 14t on there would make this even higher. Lots of people go for an 18t on the back and find this a happy medium.

  • i ride one at Herne Hill.
the standard drops are nasty, but appart from that, it does what it says on the tin.

  • ... and I thrash one around on the polo court. It's got surprisingly tidy welds when you stip off the paint.

Componentry wise, the fuji is similar to the langster and bowery I meant.

I found the standard gearing a touch small and wanted a bit more top end speed(but then I don't live in a city) as it's my training bike. Still great fun to ride.

  • Quick favour: does anyone have a 61cm Fuji Track (2007) that they can take a tape measure to for me? I've been riding one since new, but I'm not with it and I need to know if I should bid on a frame on eBay - will it fit, and all that. I need to know the length of the top tube, centre to centre. Ta muchly in anticipation of a wave of support and help.
