IMHO, don't bother. Tried powergrips after reading about them a while ago, thought they'd be the bees knees and got some. However, they were extra large so ended up skewering dirty great holes in them to make them fit before even trying them out. Once my feet were in, no matter how much I adjusted them, I always ended up with the middle of my foot on the pedal, rather than the front. went to cages and straps and haven't looked back. They also look so much better. Thats just me though, If you want my butchered powergrips, you can ave 'em.

oh, yeah, and as for pedals- I was running bmx easton flats until the cages & straps, they got replaced by mks sylvans. Cheap enough to scrape when cornering and not worry about it.
-

I'll have a look in a few shops then and try a few out just to see how they fit. Might of because you got the extra large though - they are designed for winter boots according to the manufacturer's web site.

Well done eeehhhh, you living in south ken next year then? I'm a saint martins sculpture student. Dont really get to socialise with many imperial college people, we'll have to meet up at some point. I'll be arriving by ambulance though!

really, those were big. humungous. suitable for a steel-toecap-sporting coal miner with size 25 feet, but nowt else. oh, maybe astronauts could use them to stop the bike floating off.

haha, I'll make sure that I don't even bother trying the xl ones then :)

Ta! Nah, not South Ken. My first choice for accommodation was near Charing Cross (a lot cheaper, en suite, less to a kitchen, and I don't mind the ride in!) and my second was near Camden I think. Can't remember the others!
Yeah we should. Be cool to meet some of the people behind the usernames!

I've got some Powergrips. Evans do them, online only, but get them shipped to store for free. £15.
I use them with MKS Sylvan touring pedals (double sided), which I think are about £15 or £20. They work fine, but they aren't as good as spuds for going fast. I put them on when I go shopping or out on the town.
PS. I went to Imperial too. It sounds like you're going for intercollegiate halls, which is a good move. A lot of Imperial undergrads are a very dull and geekish, and ladies are thin on the ground.

^yep it was because they were XL that you had trouble, I had XL too then exchanged em for the regular ones. I much prefer them to clips and straps but its all relative.

That was one of my major concerns! Whilst I like chemistry a lot, and science in general, I like to think that I actually have a personality and am quite lively anyway, plus I have lots of other interests :) It's in London anyway so it's not like I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere with a lack of people :)
I think I'll have a look at the MKS ones. They seem to be quite popular. I really would like clipless but I need to save the money really and it saves me changing shoes.

tried the standard ones last night and they are great - much better than the XL, easier to adjust and keep the ball of your foot in the correct position

Charing cross ey? my college 5 mins from tottenham court road tube station, in the middle of al the bookshops between oxford st and spamalot. Is that charing x road?
ps:
"ladies are thin on the ground"
if this is true then having some friends in CSM wouldn't go amiss. There is a silly ratio of girls - boys in my college. silly in a good way if you're a boy that is. At least it was silly on foundation, but next year i'm with all the fashion students so heh heh heh (either female or gay) (sorry if anyone is a fashion student at st martins and is neither female nor gay)

There are also a lot of stuck up c*nt at imperial who like to flash the cash try and beposh and go to exspenive bars, be snobby yell about the bla bla bla that daddy bought them, I think at most unis though (esp central London) there are alot of people like that. I think some of the worst I saw wore there school hoodies around, old boys style w@nkers. Gives uni education a bad name to people who have not been to uni if the people that they meet that are there act like stuck up tw@ts.
-
• #17
Yeah, you'll get that at any uni - particularly the highly ranked ones. I was interviewed at Oxford (had to stay for 3 days!) and I hated it so much that by the last day I was near the point of withdrawing my application. in the group of 30 or so people being interviewed, only a couple of people including myself were from a state funded sixth form! I was sick and tired of the number of people going on about bloody rowing and how they row with Steve Redgrave etc, and the constant fscking name dropping or details of what car "Daddy" bought them!
I'll be the first person in my family to go to uni :) I'm not rich - I'm working full time over the summer so that I just about have enough money to last me the first year! I can't stand posh people. No one better even think about trying to degrade me by flashing their wealth.
-

Not Aussie unis mate! It was all about seeing how many tins of beer you could funnel and how much free beer you could win at Toss the Boss and Keg Clock!!!
Silly English universities with their silly "reputations" ;-) -

Befriend them and get them to spend all their money on your drinks. Sweet!

nah me neither, just trying to be cool and fit in. unless, unless, wait for it, is it cause they say 'mate'?
Anywhere that sells powergrips at a reasonable price in London?
I was going to go for atacs and sidis but I just can't afford it with the costs of starting uni in September. I don't get on with clips/straps so I'm going to give Powergrips a go. Plus I can wear whatever shoes.
I want to get some new pedals to go with them, too. Anyone recommend some? I really like the MKS track pedals but I can't justify spending that much (and can't afford it, either).
