  • 31trum(murtle) by the way, that folder is punkPixel's

does he come round here I'd like to talk with him

  • ISIS drive is a bad thing on a fixed wheel.

FSA kit in my experience is not that bad for generic Taiwanese kit. Certainly good value, but the finish tends to be very poor.

The Carbon track cranks are kinda pricey and I think they run a funny chainline, ie they are fitted to these planks

    http://www.avantibikes.com/track/pista-pro.aspx?bid=28

which run Ellipses ie a 44mm chainline.

As an aside, the frame is the exact same shite that Terry Dolan knocks out.

    Dodgy Irish crooks, Australia....

  • Carbon Cranks would look cool on this bike and I can pick'em up on ebay
I haven't measured the chain line yet but the BB is standard 68 mm and ISIS cranks come in different lengths and sizes
so there is a fair old chance I can get this work but I am interested Kowalski why is ISIS drive is a bad thing on a fixed wheel ...? do they work loose or summit

  • ISIS spindles come in a limited range of sizes, which doesn't help. FSA do, however, make an adjustable ISIS BB.

I'm given to understand that ISIS, like Octalink, isn't really up to the task of fixed wheel road use.

Fixed wheel on the road puts the drivetrain under a lot of strain, and the ISIS installation relies on the strength of the splines entirely. Don't forget that, unlike square taper, ISIS spindles are thoroughly greased when the crank is fitted.

Track use has to support a ton of power from the rider, but there are no road imperfections feeding constant erratic energy back through the trans.

You won't have to to a great deal of googling to find anecdotal evidence of stripped splines, esp on Octalink.

And do you really think they look better than black 75s?

    Well, do ya?

They're Kiwi actually and quite good for a start track bike, so I've been told.

yep, he's a forum member, supposed to be sorting out the spoke cards.......

  • I also think FSA are Italian though not sure where manufactured. A lot of top road kit comes out of Taiwan anyway.

  • very interesting hear what you have to say Kowalski

    you obviously are quite knowledgeable

I'll have to have a think about them splines

some parts really are for track use only

and them sugino cranks in black do look nice

but there is something that tickles me

about fitting up carbon fiber parts

    to a shopping bike

    Kiwi/Oz, same thing.

    ;-p

What I'm saying is that's the very same wonky frame that Dolan's knock out. Mine weren't the only one, btw.

FSA have a US base, the European distributor is in Italy.

FSA is nothing more than a brand of Tien Hsin Industries, whatever the marketing hype may have you believe.

    I hear you.

You certainly need a sense of humour to ride a fixed Dahon....

    But an NJS certified shopper?

    Now there's a thing!

  • I am LAUGHING I mean who wants to ride a 'shopping bike'

but its sitting here in my living room

    and its growing on me

I don't suppose it will ever 'ride' like a 'proper' bike

but it is going to be fun

    making this go fast

AND now I got a bike for my holidays

    NJS shopper...?

mini-bikes and folders are mad popular in Japan

they got folding bikes like you've never seen

  • These are very popular with Japanese folk.

Obviously not expecting to encounter too many potholes.

    http://www.sinclair-research.co.uk/a-bike.php

No reason you can't make a shopper go fast.

i'm sure alex moulton would be mortified to hear you call his bike a shopper!

the A-bike on the other hand....
"feels very much like a normal bike to ride" ?? I very much doubt it!

  • kowalski What I'm saying is that's the very same wonky frame that Dolan's knock out. Mine weren't the only one, btw.

I thought that wonky Dolan was custom built?

    Pista chatter: http://www.cyclingforums.com/t-351996-15-1.html

I can't see anyone complaining about the Avanti frames. I have one of their MTBs and they're very good for the price.

    Oh that's just too cool

  • the-smiling-buddha alright keep yer hair on
