rakan If you don't like riding on the drop part of drops and never use it but you use the curve bit for climbing it makes sense.

Ride with what ever bars you like and let other people rise with what ever bars they like, if it work for them who gives a shit. ( says quill stem with luged frame boy:) )
I personally like a buxom wench and a nice pint of west country cider on my bars.

winston I think he has got some kind of straight bar there...is that grey bit an arm rest or some kind of grip at the end of a straight bar? The RTTC have a minimum bar width regulation (20cm I think) and he's got a number on his back, so they wouldn'ta let him start without "bars"....LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT CHAINRING!
When that pic was first mentioned, the comments were that he had no straight bar at all.
I've now seen another pic from front on you can see the straight bits! Lying bastard forum users! (the grey glint is a flat piece of handlebar).
The couple of Hillingdon TTs I've done (yeah, nothing like Obree-level racing I know) seem pretty lax on rules so it wouldn't surprise me if he got away with anything. It's Obree after all!! :)It was the chainring size that got the pic chatter going.. I think it was 65T

John Styles reports:
A new craze sweeping the nations youth is leaving authorities baffled and struggling to find a solution.
Initially adopted by the most 'hardcore' couriers, Royal Mail postmen, the trend has been adopted by Generation X and causing chaos in the nation's cities.
"Walking" as it is known, is a travel mode that doesn't require gears, doesn't require a license and in some cases doesn't even require shoes.
Jenny Wilkinson a Selfridges employee had these comments for us "I was just minding my own business when all of a sudden I was rushed by two young hooligans. They were WALKING on the footpath. They almost bumped into me. I just couldn't believe it. I'm now scared to leave my home" -

Apparently Prague has walking couriers.... I couldn't figure out the point..
-
• #39
Well, people deliver flyers and post by walking around. Why not?
Maybe they don't have a need for triple rush parcels over the other side of town in Prague? -

there are plenty of foot messengers in new York.....why would you need a bike when you've got 20 overnight drops / pickups in one skyscraper then the same in the one next door....there are some in certain areas of London, working for fedex and UPS etc
-
• #41
ive heard of running messengers. they run bloody miles
-

Running? Running? Bloody useless pastime that. At least with cycling you get to sit down.

yeah running hurts, properly knackers you and isnt
easier downhill, makes you look like a tool and
if you do it regularly for ages you get gradually shorter. -
• #44
oh yeah and chopping without flopping seems very strange.
but then again i have risers.

joe_b yeah running hurts, properly knackers you and isnt

Perhaps I've got rubbish technique or something.

How often do you ride? How often do you run? Exactly. :)
-
• #47
Yeah, didn't think of that :P
I'd like to do the marathon next year. MIght do a bit of research online about training etc :)
Although I would prefer something more bike-orientated.
Hmm. Audax...

• #48
run the London Marathon in spd shoes?
-
• #49
Start training now. Running isn't something you can just do lots of distance in (well, not without damaging yourself). You have to build up your muscles, bones, tendons, etc. to take the impact.
