or look out for a free copy of photoshop elements with a printer/scanner then upgrade from there.
i got CS3 by changing my website hosts and taking them up on the offer of a £4.99 disk of useless P.C. software that included PS elements, i then took adobe up on their half price upgrade offer which meant i paid £250. i would have happily paid more as my theory is if you make money from using it then pay up. -

Even Adobe dont expect you to pay for their software anymore hence the price of it. They make the money by selling it to large companies who have to buy legit copies. One day I will buy a copy legitimately but at the moment ....

Thankyou everyone, casp has generously said he'd do the rest for me.
It was a very tough decision, with some very stiff competition, there are no losers here etc. etc.
I actually got in touch with casp before a lot of the entries came in.. I would have picked sam's effort in retrospect. ah well.

torrents, cracks and haxors FTW
Like GP said, they dont expect you to buy it, all cash is made from licenses sold to school etcIf they wanted to stop you, they would have invested in a decent way, instead of flimsy serial code, and easily manipulated software.

Wrong - I had a friend who used to work for adobe - they have quite a large division that tackles illegitimate copies - they DO make cases against individual people and the penalties can be quite severe. A well known creative agency working across UK and US had to close after they were caught using illegal versions of the software for the last 6-8 years. They couldn't sustain the fines and had to close shop! Fines and penalites vary but if they pin you for using the software for more than a year or a certain amount of time, they can push for ALOT in penalties.
If you're looking to learn and mess around then yeh, use a crack/borrowed/student version but if you are making money from it, get a license - its a bit cheap using cracks as they DO mess up and you look like a chump when the issue you have is license issues when trying to work!
In regards to price - if you're using it purposefully, you make the price back within a month - compared to plumbers, builders, design software tools are by far the cheapest!

Have a look for 'Sams Teach Yourself PS CS3 in 24hrs'. It was great for getting me started, after 3 hours I knew enough to get stuck in and have a go.
Ave it.

Q. - How do you make the top menu bar appear and disappear? I pressed something and it disappeared. Now I'll be buggered if I can work out how I did it and how to get it back!

That's it? Cheers. I'll try it when I get home tonight. I'm sure(-ish) I've tried that.

pressing 'f' (at least on a mac) will also put into a full screen mode, one of which doesn't have the menu bar

Hi kindly designers. I'm making a thing to be printed in black and one pantone colour. I've got some colour photos I want to drop in; do I need to do anything to them in photoshop to make them... er.. pantone-printing ready?
Sorry for the idiotic question, I have no idea what I'm doing.

as in duo-tone?
image>mode>greyscale - then image>mode>duotone i think...
if you mean a pantone colour detail, just make sure the colour is a pantone ref.

Not a photoshop question but it's adobe related and if anyone can help me I will be eternally grateful. I've got a PDF (created in Illustrator) which I need to make a tiny amend to on one page before sending it out to several hundred journalists. Unfortunately I don't have any software to make amends here (at home) and I have to take my cat to the vet this morning before her face falls off and no-one else in my office is capable of doing it.
any chance someone can make the amend and email the PDF back to me?

I am completely useless with photoshop. I have to size a photo of Jayloo to a US passport size photo. There are very specific guidelines that need to be followed. For someone who knows Photoshop really well this would probably be a brainless task. We need this for visa stuff. If anyone can help out, would you PM me please. Cheers!

Snappy snaps do used to do it (I had my U.S passport renewed 3 years ago) for £10. I would be very careful using any manipulation software as im sure there is a clause somewhere that probits it?

if anyone is bored or would like to help to make this picture of a frame so that it can serve as a template for colour experimentations (frame & fork and lug lining) would really appreciate it. my skills are none.
thanks.
