Cycling knicks have a padded insert, often called a chamois from the "olden days" when it was leather. You don't need to treat them now to soften them up.
They rule. Wear them. If you are shy wear them under shorts/jeans/leopard skin tutu.
You can get non-padded ones, usually for triathlon when you don't want a soggy cycling chamois feeling like a nappy during the run leg.
You can get the short liners too which are kinda like boxer shorts but with the insert - designed to be worn under other clothes. These are cheaper.
I buy full knicks because you can wear them alone - roadie style, or you can wear them under rolled up clothes - fakenmessencasual style. -

So I bought some shorts which felt hot and a bit itchy to start with but I soon forgot about that after about an hour in when my knob went numb I couldn't feel a thing down there
is this fucking normal...? is someone having a laugh or something ...?
-
• #33
Did you put them on backwards or something? :P
What did you buy? Are they the right size? Sounds like they're bunching or something where they shouldn't be.. and itchy? WTF?
-
• #34
They are a bit itchy because its synthetic
Size as in skintight
and the label is in the back
where the padding goes under my tackle
it went all funny numb
maybe I just ain't used to 'padding' in my trousers
I think I am going to get some with proper gentlmans chamois -

skintight = good - no bulking of material, etc.
label at back = good - although you did say you were in france.. god knows what they do?! ;)
numb - were they the 3d/shaped kinda padding or was it a simple, flat lump of foam-like material? This shouldn't happen. -
• #37
they had three types of padding
rubbish
sporty
competitionI got sporty its kinda shapped and ribbed
-
• #38
Maybe the "ribs" are in the wrong place? The only time I've had a numb c0ck was after a particulary hard, bunch ride where with a slght downward angle to the saddle. I'd basically sat on the end of the saddle for four hours and cut off blood flow or something. The numbness only lasted a few minutes and was remedied by tilting the saddle back (and being too fscked to ride that hard again ;)).

Yeah thats it a combination of the saddle and the padding cut off the blood now the saddle is set horizontal with a spirit level so its got to be the padding telling yeh its got to be chamois
-
• #41
Actually you reminded me.. my first pair of knicks were really cheap, with a small chamois and they chaffed little hippy very badly. I'm still a lycra fan though..
Don't buy really cheap knicks. -

You'll need to find a shop that stocks tri shorts or possibly cycling knicks with a flat chamois to see what the chamois looks like, before buying.
http://www.bikeandrun.co.uk/bikeshop/product_info.php?cPath=76_44&products_id=758The only pair of knicks I've bought in London with a flat chamois were discounted Nike ones. All my other knicks are from Oz or have 3D chamois styles.

I'll give them another go, probably not this week though, if I am still going numb I'll rip the padding out, see how that goes
