Yeah, design consideration, and I just happened to have a spare 4 bolt truvativ SS ring knocking about at the time (when the logo was used for a short-lived mobile bike mechanic project).
All my wife's work, mind.

How d'you find the Timbuk2? My one's still at nipper at only six months, but the stitching on the inside is starting to come loose. I'm always fiddling with it on the move, too. Some days, I just can't get the bloody thing to stay in one place.

i have just swapped my chrome citizen for a timbukt2 size L. they're substantially cheaper, but i so far i dont have much to complain about, save the lack of a "quick release press button thing" on the strap, which i find i miss a bit.
it's big, and far less heavy than the chrome, which is nice.
also, i find the shape makes it easier to load more stuff in it as it it larger at the bottom. there are more pockets and i got it done custom with the colours i wanted too which is a nice touch. the way it hangs also makes it easier to swing the bag round for quick access while still carrying it on the shoulder.
however it feels less robust than the chrome, but for the price/ weight, i cant say this is a surprise. time will tell how well it will resist! -

I imported my timbuk2 off a dodgy ebay US seller, for about £35. I love it, but its nowhere near as substantial as the more pricey bags. I don't think I'd pay the £60+ they seem to go for over here, but having said that it's a big price jump up to the better bags.

my large bagaboo messenger will only cost £96 including extra padding, straps and custom design inc delivery. very good value imho (i did get the 20% hungarian vat off though)

Yeah, well, it's certainly true that you can fit a lot in those Timbuk2 bags. It's just that I DID pay £60 for mine and I've got a sneaking suspicion that I could have had something better for a wee bit more money. I'd never even heard of Bagaboo before this thread. Don't think that they figure very highly in Google searches for messenger bags.
I'll maybe end up with a rucksack again, anyway. I mean, packing a courier-type bag is much easier, but carrying it messes wth your musclature. My left shoulder is suspiciously bigger than its near neighbour.

i hear what you're saying. mine also cost $120 from their website. proportionally the chrome was cheaper as i got it second hand from ebay (from a US seller)! however it came with an old sock stuffed in one of the pockets :/
i am curious about bagjack's bags too. hard to get a definite idea of their true price as brick lane cycles are selling them for WAAAAAY too much money... but they seem quite nicely built. anyone owns one? -

A friend at my uni has got a Bagjack. He's not a courier (are any of us on here anymore?), he's just loaded and saw my PAC designs bag and for some reason wanted something similar, even though he doesn't ride. Each to their own... :S
I had a look at it, and it doesn't seem anywhere near as overbuilt as my pac. The stitching looks alright, again not as good as my pac, and the strap doesn't have any padding either. Just a webbed thing. Personally, I wouldn't buy one.
Then again, I am comparing it to a PAC. I like the Bagaboos.

interesting to hear hands on comments... my colleague doesnt even own a bike either and wanted a timbuk2 after he saw my chrome, hence me ordering one at the same time from the US to share postage. unfortunately while i was a courier i was too skint to afford the best bags and only had a karrimor one, which in comparison isnt that bad for the £50 it cost at the time (it's well whacked now tho!). certainly you'd expect a padded strap for a £160 bagjack (is that how much they sell them for at brick lane cycles? i seem to remember)... the PACs are the dog's b*ll*cks in comparison!
i also think the bagaboos are brilliant but i hadnt heard about them till this thread either, which is a big shame! i would have thought twice about the timbuk2! the designs are superb... -

Bloody hell - £160 for a bagjack?! That's mental. Spend the extra tenner and get a pac...
astrozzack the PACs are the dog's b*ll*cks in comparison!
Yep they are indeed.

gorilla_squad
I am after a good backpack at the moment, a few heavy load of late have had my shoulder feeling as if it is about to fall off after 30 min or so but the shape of hiking ones is wrong for riding. The wig ones look good but pricy.
Me too...Banjo Brothers do a fully waterproof rucksack:
It got a pretty positive review at fixedgeargallery (http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/reviews/backpacks/banjo/index.html). I've ordered one but haven't received it yet - the main drawback being that there don't seem to be any UK distributors so I had to get it from the US. It's around 25l and came to about £50 including postage (don't know whether it'll get through customs though).
This company in the UK appears to sell it

come clean yes or no? if you are the urbanhunter you just need a disclaimer at the bottom of your posts
- other small independent web based retailers selling bags and other niche fixed gear/track items are available

No disclaimer for me, after these have gone that'll be it on the bag selling front.
I'll be sticking to roller racing and MTB tours.
