  • Awww lovely cat :) I love cats; I have three. They love getting in bags/boxes etc too.

The design you've got on that is awesome! I like the black and yellow, I'm tempted to go for a high contrast scheme like that myself.

The only thing that is putting me off is the long waiting time. Perhaps if I slip Tamas a few notes he might speed it up a little...

  • Yes, Elmore's a great cat, and looking good for 14yrs old :-)

Is it showing as yellow on your monitor - it's black and orange, but yeah, still fairly 'visible' (plus there's the reflective stripe on the base).

I can't remember how long I waited (I wasn't in a hurry). Probably 6 weeks all in (during the Xmas rush).

The design was a 2 person effort, but most props go to my wife - she's the one with the visual arts skills. It was originally on my mobile-bike-mechanic flyers, but I've moved on from that...

  • I should add that, although the design and manufacturing of my Bagaboo was great, the materials weren't so amazing and the corners and strap wore out more quickly than I would expect. I bought mine a few years ago so he might have changed the materials that he uses (in fact the strap material is definitely different now). Tamas was great to deal with and he can do some wicked sewing work on the flap.

  • I am after a good backpack at the moment, a few heavy load of late have had my shoulder feeling as if it is about to fall off after 30 min or so but the shape of hiking ones is wrong for riding. The wig ones look good but pricy.

Me too...Banjo Brothers do a fully waterproof rucksack:

It got a pretty positive review at fixedgeargallery (http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/reviews/backpacks/banjo/index.html). I've ordered one but haven't received it yet - the main drawback being that there don't seem to be any UK distributors so I had to get it from the US. It's around 25l and came to about £50 including postage (don't know whether it'll get through customs though).

  • Ortlieb? I have an inkling they do waterproof backpacks. They certainly have a great rep for waterproof panniers.

  • yes they do and there massive and silver and act like a giant parachute if you ride with them open

  • They're not gonna be very waterproof if you ride with them open.. I'd suggest 'closing' it.. :P

  • huummm?

i dunno, sounds a little unconventional to me

Yeah I am expearmenting with an old rucksac at the moment that is about the same size, so smaller than my shoulder bag. It os fine for most stuff but what I really want is one a bit bigger for when I have big loads + loads of strap to tie on really big / alkawrd loads but hiking ones that are big enough are this orible long slim shape.

Some thing like this wig one but as 100 odd quid it is a bit pricy. I am thinking of getting creative with a n old backpack and some vynal sign (if I can find some) and loads of webbing.

  • im right in the middle of sewing up my prototype bumbag thingy, its vynal sign also but orrid futuristic silver,

  • I start to get face ticks when thinking about spending over £100 for a bag.

  • yeah i find it a bit much,i can understand a messenger spending that much as its a big part of there job

  • I've got no problems spending £100 on a bag if it's going to fit everything in, be comfortable, be 100% waterproof AND look good :)

Turning up at work with a wet shirt, soggy paperback book, wet towel and soaking wet wallet drives me nuts.

  • Buy a £20 bag and put all your stuff in shopping bags.. :)

  • I hate doing that. It's so ugly to put everything in plastic bags, everything is horrible about them. The look, the feel, the sound...

  • I was taking the piss BUT now i think about it, it keeps your stuff dry and makes things easy to separate. Mostly for touring when ripping bits and pieces out of panniers in the rain..
In fact, I have three plastic bags in my crumpler - clean clothes, cycling clothes, tools. Not for waterproofing I just don't want my soaked kit getting all over my clean clothes.
Tools in separate bag make it easy to take them out when not cycling.
Course I wouldn't expect the stylers here to do something practical that hampers their image :P

I know someone who would disagree with you:

  • Sorry to complicate the issue but have you considered a Pac Designs bag? I know they're expensive but the exchange rates in our favour at the moment and IMHO they're great bags and they're definitely great people to deal with. They'll do pretty much anytthing on the custom flap front and their strap system with the extra cross strap is brilliant. I've had my bag something like five years now ( http://www.pacdesigns.com/photo_flaps.htm , its the green one with the reflective peace sign ) I've used it pretty much every day since I got it and apart from recently developing a small hole in the front outer pocket is still going strong, also unless you literally imerse it in water it's water proof. It's definitely miles better than the other (early) Timbuk2 and Chrome bags I've had, absolutely no competition. If you're in London and want to check them out I think Brick Lane Cycles stock them. Absolutely no disrespect to Brick Lane Cycles, but I'd still deal direct with PAC Designs and get them to do a custom flap for you, that way it's your bag.

    ahhhhhh that is soo cute!!

  • That was about 6 months ago. Now he just laughs at me derisively for trying to pimp my ride with white tyres and bar tape :-

  • haaa, you must be really happy,he seems great:)

  • :)

  • i need to order my bagaboo real soon but i don't know if i need a medium or large (standard messenger),
the most i need to carry is:

    laptop (macbook 13in)
    pair trainers
    jeans
    pants/socks
    t-shirt
    thin wool jumper
a rab down jacket in it's stuffsac (about the size of 2bags sugar)
small pump and a few small tools/tube.
a lightweight waterproof that pacs down small.

most of the time i wouldn't be carrying the laptop or the down jacket
i currently use a crumpler very busy man, it's served me well for 4 years but it can't carry everything i need in winter.

the 63cm of the large sounds massively long? yet in the pics with the cat it doesn't look so long.

    any suggestions?

before you tell me to order one of scotts wonderful bags i would but i need this quite soon plus i get the vat back so the bagaboo is very good value for me.
