Best of luck. I had an item delivered to the wrong address and an email from Royal Mail saying as much. EBay demanded more proof that RM wouldn't provide and I lost heart as it was £2.99's worth of stuff

Well the seller has supplied his receipt and that has gone with all the requested details to rm . Interestingly enough it says 12:09
Collected and Signed at Your Customer Service Point
Wallasey DO
But the office isn't open for customers then. -

The Royal Mail site has a name and a signature of who collected it. Is that you?

• #2755
No never here'd of them . Ludoso ?

Can't get a reply from royal mail after 3 days so i have asked ebay to step in and help.

I have now been issued the two refunds and the seller has been shafted by royal mail . I have complained on his behalf .

I bought a router from a seller on Ebay back in January. Shipping from Germany to Spain, all pretty straight forward.
Never got a tracking number but eventually received it in the beginning of February via Fedex. Just a normal delivery, did not even sign it or anything. Apparently it was shipped from South Africa and not Germany.
The ebay order never changed, in fact to this day it still shows "in transit". Now I'm getting letters from Fedex claiming I need to pay taxes and duties on it with interest and they threaten legal action if I don't pay. The seller has completely ghosted me. What do I do here? Do I have to just pay up?

What were the stated shipping charges? Standard warnings about duty and taxes for your own country?
-
• #2760
"Free shipping"

Free shipping never includes local duties and taxes unless specifically stated. The threat sounds odd, this was the first you heard about charges?
I’d probably just pay up - seller has decent rep? -

But the seller declaring themselves to be in Germany when they're actually posting from SA is misrepresentation. If I was in the buyer's situation I'd have no qualms buying between EU countries, but wouldn't risk buying from SA specifically because of import duties.
Absolutely raise a claim and pursue it with eBay if the seller keeps schtum.

• #2763
Ah yes, forgot about the SA origin.

• #2764
How easy is it to claim postage costs from RM? (I.E. I paid for next day delivery and it wasn't delivered)
(Don't want to create a ball ache for seller, but OTOH I would happily have my £5 back if it's not a pain) -
• #2765
Not hard, there's an online claim form IIRC.
-
• #2766
Easy to fill out claim form online, happened a fair bit recently but they have sent cheques in the mail every time

@se1derful Ty both, looks like it might arrive today, in which case as it was collected after 6pm Wednesday I'm willing to give benefit of the doubt (and not hassle the seller)

Recently sold a stem on ebay. One of the bolts didn't have a washer so I fished one out of parts bin and included it. I pictured the stem in the listing with washer which was a bit thicker than the rest of them. Buyer sent me a message when he got the stem, complaining that the washer looks out of place, inviting some sort of part refund or return. Couldn't be bothered for either so I spent about 15 mins trying to pry a really tight split washer off another stem bolt so I could send to him. Doing this, I took a tiny chip from the front of my tooth (who uses tools, really? - doh!) I had to laugh at the end of it, thinking about a £100 dentist bill which I've narrowly missed, thank God. Lesson learned - offered a part refund to keep him sweet and hopefully maintain good feedback score. Sometimes you have to cut losses and take a hit; time and are teeth more valuable in the long run.

How does pre payment work for collection sales? For instance if I pay for a bike on card and go there and it's junk, what happens next (hypothetical, this hasn't happened to me yet). Is it in any way safer, or as safe as just paying with bank transfer once you've verified it's not junk?
Ebay offer system now demands payment on acceptance of the offer so I'd have to pay on card off I go through official channels.

You have to scan a barcode when you collect an item, so presumably you can refuse to take it if its shite - then process is same as something not being received?
Not had this experience, though

Thanks. Looking closer that's the only circumstance that's covered by the money back guarantee, though not sure how that's supposed to work if you've viewed something and agreed to take it.
-
• #2772
I'd be contacting the seller and offering cash/bank/paypal friends transfer once you'd viewed and were happy with the condition.
The seller will avoid fees doing it that way so if they are reluctant then it's probably a good sign they're hiding summat.

They were ok with transfer with the caveat that there could be delays at the weekend. I have never had delays with a bank transfer before but apparently it can be a thing.
Which got me thinking: why not go through the official eBay payment, which has me covered in, I suppose, the event that it turns out to be nicked or something shortly after purchase. Seller doesn't seem fussed either way so may go that route.

EBay monitors messages for anything resembling arranging a sale outside their system. Anyone with a longstanding or high rep account will not want to risk a ban.
EBay will even sometimes decide you went ahead with a private sale and charge the fee anyway, which is allowed by their terms.
