• I've had an issue now a couple of times with ebay regarding the address the item I ordered is going to. During checkout I select the desired address, but the item ends up going to my "primary delivery address" which is set in my account details.

Shouldn't the address selected at checkout override this? I don't understand how the seller is getting the primary address from. Both ebay and paypal invoices show the correct delivery address.

    Any ideas?

  • does it have something to do with your paypal addresses? I'm sure they only ship to a paypal confirmed address.

  • The selected delivery address was a confirmed address, but it still managed to go to my "ebay primary delivery address"

  • Hmm, very odd, that's the only issue I've ever had in the past. sorry thats all I've got.

  • I think I've figured it out. Ebay gives a delivery address and an invoice address to the seller, and sometimes sellers screw up and send to the invoice address. The invoice address is the ebay "primary delivery address", even when using paypal.

So I guess the only foolproof way to stop it from happening is to update your primary delivery address in your account details to match your delivery address every time.

I'm just glad it wasn't the dining set I ordered that got mistakenly sent to my work address...

  • Not a problem just amusing:

List carbon fibre Ultegra road bike on eBay, detailed specification if nearly all components. Good photography, etc.

First question from a potential buyer: "Are the wheels quick release?"

    Lols

  • Well are they?

  • I'll check...

  • To be fair, the QR lever are on the NDS and the pics are from the drive side.

  • Are the original valve caps included wire the sale?

  • I can include for ten pounds extra. Same for air in tyres.

  • What do you think of this?

"New" ck headset that went for £85, no description but photos look good, is it a fake?

  • Hey guys I'm wondering if you could help me.

I bought a shimano xt m8000 brake calliper and lever from eBay last October. Never fitted it to my bike as the project as taken a while to complete!

Anyway I fitted this week and there oil leaking from the calliper. I.e it's faulty. The seller never said this in the description only stated "it could do with a bleed" as it's been over thirty days is there anything I can do?

I contacted the seller and he's no longer replied to my last messages, basically saying there's nothing I can do..

    Sean

  • if you look at it from the sellers point of view, you've now had it for over 6 months in which time you could have done any number of things with it.

If it were me I'd probably say the same, which is rubbish if you bought it like that but equally, you've a duty to check it thoroughly when it arrives to make sure you're satisfied.

Sucks, but as far as ebay/paypal are concerned there's no recourse.

  • For the next time you consider buying used hydraulic stuff: ‘could do with a bleed’ or ‘could do with a service’ is code word for ‘completely fucked’.

  • Yeah I understand and that does suck.. oh well my bad.

  • So... don't know what to do here.

I bought the old bike from Gumtree in about 2014; it was registered on bike register but I wasn't aware of it at the time. Having noticed the stamp on it a couple of weeks after I contacted the seller and asked them to transfer ownership. They informed me they didn't have the details and stupidly I didn't bother pursuing it.

Anyway... 4 years later I have a new commuter and think I may as well sell the old one. Contact Bike Register with the bike details and request they contact the person it is registered to. This person subsequently reports the bike as stolen 'but didn't bother to at the time' and would like their bike back.

When I bought the bike it was fairly cheap but properly knackered:

    • no bar tape
    • a non-working centre pivot brake not actually attached to the frame
    • broken pedals
    • a broken seat
    • seatpost had rusted shut onto seat
    • pedals had rusted into cranks
    • cranks were threaded
    • threaded tyres

Anyway I've replaced/repaired/fixed all of the above since; presumably any items I've added can be removed?

Further to the above it seems a bit suspicious to me that this person has decided to declare their bike stolen (at least) 4 years down the line? Might just be bitterness on my part though.

    Any advice?

  • Worth checking your emails for anything relating to the sale through gumtree?

  • 4 years later I ... Contact Bike Register...

I'm guessing the bike's rightful owner is probably thinking it's a bit suspicious it's taken you 4 years to get in touch with Bike Register.

Ianal but I imagine your within your rights to remove parts you have bought for the bike but there may be a requirement for you to return the bike in the condition it was bought in? Ie the tyres may have been worn but there were at least tyres on it.

Citizens Advice website says "If you have spent money on improving or repairing the stolen goods, you may be able to claim compensation for the value of these improvements or repairs."

I don't know if there is a period of time after which stolen goods are no longer considered 'stolen good'? I was going to say there might be a limit on how long after a crime you can report it but we're always hearing about cases regarding historical sexual assault/abuse so that'd suggest not.

I think bottom line is that as far as you can tell, it's a stolen bike and now that you aware of that, it needs to be returned.

  • I don't know if there is a period of time after which stolen goods are no longer considered 'stolen good'?

    6 years.

  • Yeah I appreciate I have to give it back, fortunately I've found the messages with the person I bought the bike from on an iPhone backup. I spoke to the police who advised me I can remove any parts I've added to the bike and should deal with it through the original owner and bike register.

  • I've sold something on Ebay but i haven't had any contact with the buyer - its only been a couple of days but his feedback shows a few occasions where he hasn't made contact or paid.
How long till i can offer it to the next highest bidder?

  • Should be able to do it right now, but in my experience don't hold out hope for them to accept it. You might be better off just relisting it.

  • Ditto, I've never had a second offer accepted.

  • Yeah, just relist.

It (probably) won't cost you anything and if the original buyer eventually pays you can either refund them and tell them to beat it or just pull the new listing.
