  • if anybody want to swap a small for a mediun please let me know
I have a small and it is too small for me, so will like to get the mediun
    my bike is nearly new.

  • Registered to say thanks for the good info in this thread everyone.

I'm looking to get a plug quite soon and I'm currently leaning towards a small. I'm 5' 8 which from previous posts looks like I'd fall within the small/medium size frame bracket, but as I'm used to riding BMX bikes for most of my life I think I'll probably be more comfortable on the smaller size....

    ....I hope

I have a medium plug racer and may potentially swap it for a small. I do find it a bit big really. Top be 100% sure I'd like to sit ona small though.

Just letting you know at this, not defianate as I need to make some more enquires.

I'm in bristol by the way,

    Jeff
    PM me if you wnat

  • sorry the plug is gone.

  • Was hoping to pick one of these up, checked evans and they only have the '09 model in stock at the moment, rang them and they said the '10 models would be in sometime in december.
Looking at the specs it really doesn't seem to be much between them:
    2010

    2009

Is there any real reason for me to hang on a couple weeks to get the 2010 model? Seems to be just the levers, brakes, and headset that are different...

  • uh oh!

  • My advice would be to wait untill the 2010 models are in and then get a 2009 for cheaper.

I was thinking about doing that, thing is I'm currently bikeless and just pissing away money every day on public transport.
I did a google for those parts to see if there was much difference, but most of the references I found online were just about the charge plug bikes anyway.

  • Good point about the tube. Go and get an 09 one today.

Charg make nice bike. I chap at work has got a grinder and loves it. I would personly go for just a plug but if the grinder is floating you boat then go for it.

  • It's worth pointing out that the brake levers might not be Tektro R538's. I bought a 2010 freestyler a few weeks back and it came with R358's. I checked with Charge and they said it was a typo on their site. Haven't checked to see if they've updated their site yet actually...

I would go with the 2009 and get it cheaper personally :) You'll probably end up replacing the parts anyway! The levers kinda suck, as do the brake blocks. I replaced the brake blocs with some cheap Clark's pads (£2 a pair from Chain Reaction). Work a lot better, though still a little ropey stopping my hulk of manlyness (read: fat bastard)

  • Just checked on evans site at some of the other plug models and they have both 09 and 10 in stock but both at the same price, seems a little strange...

  • It's the same sodding bicycle, as other said, get the old model.

  • Odd.

    Cheaper here:

    and at wiggle:

Noooooo, not the baby puke green colour!
The cream ones look to be about the same price everywhere, evans spitalfields has one in sml in stock so i might go pick it up tomorrow morning :D

  • I haven't seen any charge's around my city. I bought a 2010 freestyler, but managed to get it in galvanised with black rims (couldn't stand the green rims). I was after something OTP and tried out a plug and a maurice. I quite liked the plug, but didn't like the wheelset. The maurice was quite nice and felt more lively, so I figured the freestyler would be the best of both.

It rides really nicely actually :) My only issue is toe overlap, but it's not been a big problem. Also, the brake levers are shite, as are the stock brake blocks. The 42/16 gearing is a good start for my first fixed and is fine with my daily commute and bombing about town.

  • The fork is a bit overkill for commuting isn't it?

  • has anyone got the plug TI out of interest?

  • I don't like the plug. I don't like charge.
    there, I said it!

  • looks nice! i'd like a ti stove, or just a lighter stove

    why harry?

  • Oh he doesn't like anything apart from his bike.

  • Oh he doesn't like anything apart from his bike.

    Ha.
Very not true. But I don't like lots of things that others like / or that have a good reputation.
I like to judge components based on an experience of them rather than on forum consensus, and so in that sense yes I may appear to not like lots of things. Lots of things I think are great don't appear on the forum. Some do. But I'm not really just going to blather on about how much i like Sugino 75s when every one already knows they are great to name but one example. Furthermore I don't feel that many of the parts that do have a good reputation are challenged on this here forum, because people get a little caught up in defending the status quo and just like your post then get personally nasty particularly against newer members of the forum, when the consensus is challenged. And so the conservatism of the forum gets totaly institutionalised, and real debate over the effectiveness of things is stifled.

And so it becomes much easier to make stupidly short or sarcastic comments then to actually make a reasoned contribution against consensus.

If you want my honest opinion on the subject :)

  • I don't like the plug. I don't like charge.
    there, I said it!

I'm primarily annoyed by the downgrading of components on the plugs, principally the crankset, whilst not lowering the price. But I also think the geo-sucks ass, and the brake levers are crap to the point of dangerous. And I don't like half link chains or the way they look.

Its not that they are crap per-sae, but I think its an example of an OTP that rests to much on its looks. Only the Pista is more successful at that.

  • The thing is, the Charge Plug appeal to the joe public as an everyday simple bicycle as a transportation (apart from the flashy Freestyler and Racer).

while to us, the Charge Plug appear as a heavy bike with cheap component (but not necessary unreliable), but to them, it's a decent enough bike to ride around town, to commute, shit and giggle, etc.

that's why I like the Charge Plug.

  • But thats the problem, the plug, like the bianchi pista are popular on how they look, and some of the better OTPs at the same price points are over-looked because they are ugly, and they really are. So the question is why can't the Garry Fisher Triton or the Schwin Maddison be made sexier so they sell better, as they are better bikes.

Its not that I don't like the charge plug or the bianchi pista because its shit compared to a £5000 custom built jobby, I don't like it because for the money I don't think its good enough, and in particular to the plug I don't like the way charge have made it worse and not decreased the price. Its not about snobbery, its about assessing the cost-effectiveness and quality of each bike individually.

For example. I think the Schwin Cutter 09 is fucking awful. But that the mongoose is really good (but admittedly I don't have the same degree of experience with the mongoose that I do have with the Cutter).
