I sucked my gut in, just like at the beach.

1. Take EPO or blood transfusion to increase Hematocrit (percentage of red blood cells)
   
2. Before expected testing dilute blood to reduce Hematocrit to acceptable levels.
   
3. Take diuretic to draw fluid out of the body, and return Hematocrit to elevated levels.
   

How does a diuretic help performace? I thought it would be worse as you'd keep needign to stop for a wee - hence Frank's crap tour..

It's part of a complex process when doping, where blood volume is increased to pass tests, then the diuretic is taken to decrease the blood volume allowing the EPO or transfusion to have more of an effect.

Are you sure? Often teams have people on the roadside handing up bottles, capes, etc. especially on mountain tops where cars can't get to quickly.

I thought they used saline drips to increase blood volume before the test. Didn't think they needed to decrease it again? That it was just absorbed and eventually pissed out.
