Didnt you have mudguards for like 5 mins?
You are welcome in the family but you are too young to rant. First bin the raceblades and get yourself some Honjo for bragging rights. Then we can talk.

Was riding around Richmond Park this morning and I couldn’t believe the amount of cyclist with no mudguards
Was riding around the Fens this afternoon. Only saw one other cyclist. Didn't see if he had mudguards, but he was going in the opposite direction, so it didn't really matter.
I had mudguards, of course, with double flaps. Not triple - I'm not that Scoble.

Not as much as plastic guards such as SKS, but they're not as stiff as honjos or stainless GBs.

horrible brown patch running up their back side
I find this hilarious for some reason. Especially on folk with super nice kit and bikes.

To think I predicted the rise and rise of the mudflap in about 2009. Bit early.

More of a rant than anything, but quite appropriate to this thread.
Was riding around Richmond Park this morning and I couldn’t believe the amount of cyclist with no mudguards on their super expensive bike riding their bike like they have taken it off road. More importantly they have that horrible brown patch running up their back side too.
Not to mention getting their spray when getting overtaken too.
Long story short, people in the UK we don’t have the luxury of sunny and dry weather all the time of the year. Be a consider sod and put some mudguards/fenders on your bike to protect your bike and your fellow riders.
Rant over.
This ^
My old road club made mudguardless bikes stay at the back on wet club runs.

Is that a question or a suggestion?

Anyone squeezed 40c tyres under 45mm guards? I'm not riding my pomp, mudguards will help remedy this
-
• #5018
I used 53mm sks guards (bluemels I think) on my pompetamine. Worked real nice with 38mm paselas. Not what you're after but quite close. I would recommend going a bit wider than 45mm.

I was hoping for 45s for the nicer matte sks, but just found their 53mm matte ones so will go for that @ payday. Cheers!

I've been happy with the wide SKS Edge AL guards. Not as nice as PDW but pretty close at a fraction of the price. The stay mounting looks a bit cheap, but works great even on gravel.

Anyone tried Zefal Paragon 'hybrid' mudguards? 52mm, 500 grammes ish, seems pretty bangin for £20... again stays look a bit ... basic.

I ran 42c under 45mmm guards for a while. Obviously water spray doesn't bend around corners very much so you stay mostly dry but it did come out the sides onto the drivetrain/my feet

45mmmm
this is interesting, thanks. Tyres are nanos so I'm inclined to go big, even if its gonna be a bit ridiculous when I got back to 35c -

Same. 56mm over 2" tyres and they've been solid over rough bridleways and a load of mud. I upgraded the stays on mine though.

OK here's a weird one ... Thinking about full guards on fome carbon rigid MTB forks with no holes or eyelets.
So plan to avoid P clips is:
Forks have a sub 10mm drain hole facing downwards on the alu sockety thing where the ends bond to the crabon. I'm thinking of threading this, amd attaching a small steel plate with holes and a bend in it to neatly fix stays for the guard. Or even just twist the stays so they face the right way and bolt directly to the hole. For the top hanger (forks have no drilling at the crown) I'm going to add a star nut up the steerer (maybe need to reduce the length of the star's flanges a bit). Will I die? Is the tapping thing madness? Would probably add a touch of threadlock to my M10 bolt there.
My brother, we, the functional family welcome you.
