I think you'd be pushed on a close tolerance 23c only frame.

I have had a pair of these on my roadie for a time. The brake set clearance isn't your issue it's the clearance between rear wheel and seat tube. I had to cut mine down to size.

this is also an elegant solution:

The old Crud Road Racers didn't have that big bit at the front of the rear mudguard so shuldn't need cutting. I think they are also a bit cheaper on eBay.

If anyone wants some of that really bright reflective stuff to stick on their mudguards pm me. I just got given some white and yellow from a guy that stickers up emergency vehicles, more than I need, so rather than have it sitting around at home I would rather it was on someones bike! No charge!!

I know its a long shot that you're still wanting some Smallfurry, what with it being around 5 months ago but I've been looking just now for myself and found these, not the most beautiful but will fit at least.

Well, should do, depends if you're running discs I think, I'm trying to find some mid width ones (tyres are 26" x 1.60) that I can fit to a frame with disc mounts, may have to bastardise some fittings, should be do-able.....
**Actually, apologies, just re-read your post, not sure they'll fit 2.5" tyres. Sorry....
Will leave this post here though......

the idea of schick using two of these on himself as some kind of speculum does not make them more appealing to me

Scoble recommended this PUSH Sprint rear guard to me last year (but don't let that put you off).
It might look a bit dinky and it's not clip-on as the name suggests, but it's easy enough to attach/remove, very light, adjustable and I'm generally really pleased with its performance.
They don't appear to have any at Winstanleys now but I have just found them for sale here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-PUSH-Sprint-Clip-On-Rear-Guard-Carbon-fits-700c-Wheels-Mudguards-/390449255101?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D221098399303%26ps%3D54
