  • TA Specialites - Syrius Byzness

    fixed

  • Cheers, that looks like the sort of thing I'm after - just wanted a bright-ish secondary light.

  • Needs filing into a symmetrical shape. That might even happen one day.

  • I use angled alu, already hardened so less likely snap over time.

  • Fair point on the alloy. If I find the right bit laying around I may do another one. Also doing some cork washers tonight because there was a little rattle on the front guard.

  • Nice, I tried nitrile rubber (excess from some flaps) but cork looks much better. What did you use to core it?

  • Oh dearie me that's very pleasing indeed.

  • Rioja Daruma.

  • Château Daruma

  • I just drilled through the cork with a small 2mm bit and then upped the size until the hole fit snugly over the washers I was using. They take the compression and the cork is just there to stop it moving back-and-forth and rattling. Seems to have worked but I’ll need to take it for a spin to check.

Luckily corks seem to fit quite nicely inside steerer tubes. You could always wrap with masking tape to make it bigger, or sand it down to make it smaller.

  • What size tyres & what size guards?

  • 42mm tyre
    37mm guards :D

  • Brave. I have wide 28s and 30 guards I'm going to try.

Would be keen to hear a review of your setup by someone who's ridden behind you for a few miles in the wet...

  • But the tyres actually run around 39mm

  • Do Bluemels have a as good coverage as Longboards? This photo looks like they do, and as such I just bought a set thinking they were longboards, but not bothered if they're as long. The matt finish actually looks pretty smart.

Edit: le balls, google says no. 780mm vs 960mm

  • Yeah, the front coverage on the front one is a lot less than the long boards.
Still a good piece of kit though.

  • I've ordered both now, and will send one back, but I suspect that the extra length of the Longboards will win out. Shame as it sounds like the Bluemels are a bit nicer in other regards.

  • Swap the flaps out for Raw ones when you get them for mega coverage.

  • bad news, mudguard afficionados. Been in touch with Radial who say they have no plans to restock their mudguards, ever. Don't quite understand why :(

On the back of this frankly disturbing news, are there any alternatives to PDWs that won't cost me £70?

  • I got a really good pair of bontrager mudguards from Evans recently, only down side is that they're not aluminium.
