  • Yep. Hot nail would probably work too, or you could bore through with a knife or something.

  • This was the final setup for the front. I tried a section of tubing with a star-fangle nut in, but there was so little thread in the star nut that I had to carefully tweak the bolt to get the clearance. The threaded spacer works much better for this.

  • Can't see the photo.

  • Looking good.

  • Not really a Mudguard thing, but I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a reflective triangle for my saddle bag 'ultraromance/nam' style, been riding on pitch black roads and a light and semi reflective jacket just don't cut it.

  • Cheers Cam, anyone know of one in the uk?

  • Forget to fit mudflap on, now regretting it.

  • Point North/Profabrics sell a variety of reflective/high vis fabric if you have access to a sewing machine, search on the site is a bit hit and miss so worth skimming through the categories.

I'll probably call by Riv. bikes so I'll see if they have any in and post on the cheap.

  • Any agricultural/safety places near you?
I'm in NA, so unsure what you'd call 'em out in UK.

  • My mate's got a Planet X RTD-80, the disc carbon thing. I'm getting fed up with getting loads of road spray every time he sits on the front.

It doesn't have mudguard mounts, so what's the best option (bearing in mind it's got a bit more clearance due to being disc). Roadracer MK3 or is there something better out there? Ideally something that'd cover enough of the wheel to protect the drivetrain a bit too.

  • Don't let him sit on the front or get a new mate

If they'll fit, PDW Full Metal Fenders. If not, SKS Raceguard XL with an extra flap.

  • I looked into this a while back, but no-one seems to sell them in the UK; the cheapest option I found was finding an eBay seller with reasonable international shipping. I think it came to about £15 all in, so didn't bother. (Edit: because I'm cheap and have various reflective belts I can hang off a saddlebag if necessary.)

  • The new Crud Roadracer are massively more sturdier than the old stuff.

1x on the PDW tho, plus your mate a twat.

  • Haha, I'll let him know. So how do PDW guards attach if there's no brake holes on fork crown or rear brake bridge?

  • Fixings to mount via the QR.

  • QR to stays to bottom of guards is fine, but what holds them in place under the fork crown?

  • Sorry, skimmed over that.

£20 for narrow raceblade longs, appear to be still in stock in black

  • Kinesis 4S Disc seems to have hidden mudguard mounts, at least, I think it does, I'm going from memory here.

Do I need special mudguards for these or different hardware for the rear guard I have?

I have one of those funky French single strips of alu mudguards.

  • Front mudguard mounts are halfway up the inside of the fork leg, you'll need to do some stay bending if you're fitting something like the SKS Longboards.

The rear mounts are normal (on seatstay just above rear axle) so if the stays are similar to SKS ones they won't require any bending. I'll try to find a pic.

    Found it:

  • Don't use front, just the rear one. I'll have to have another look at the frame again. Thanks

I must have been thinking of the fork, not the rear end of it.

  • Out of interest, why no front mudguard?
