Could the wheel have been loose before you arrived there?
Unless you saw someone messing with your bike then it's another possibility. -

Build The rant is, I went to the BRICK lane party, 7 People were there. They left. Myself and MA3K came upstairs 2 mins later all 7 of them where up there, ulnocking etc...
The deal is; My front wheel was finger tight, Someone was mid flight on my wheels when WE came up!!!!
In Short one of those cuntz tried to steal my wheels.
Then that truly is a sad state of affairs.
But is it not possible that a thief had been at your wheel before the other people went to unlock? -

i would just like to thank jan for his hospitality about 10 of us were there from 6.30 - 7 onwards after bike polo he bought us cocktails and beers without any hesitation he wouldn't take no for an answer
i must admit though parking bikes at the end of one of the dodgiest areas of london for stolen bikes was risky i was checking on my bike every 10 mins or so and was v relieved to see it there when i finished up drinking...... not something i plan to do too regularly
thanks again jan hopefully we can all put a bit more business his way -

Huh... sounds like you just called me a cunt. And a theif. Along with my girlfriend and a few other people on this forum who I consider pretty good mates.
I think we were the last ones there besides yourself and the guys you showed up with. We left to go check out the hooka bar on bricklane, they were closed so we went back to green and reds, which is something of my local. The barman, who I'm very friendly with, said one of you lot smashed a bunch of bottles to the floor on your way out. Asked if I knew you and if you all were couriers as well. Good think I could honestly say 'No'.
If that's what happened then I only WISHED it was me who stole your wheel.Sorry if I take this personally but you really sound like the cuntz.
Oh, and did you take a piss on the bar window as well?

build
there are 6million+ people in london jumping to a conclusion as per the above is a bit rash like i said brick lane is notorious for bike thiefs do you reckon it was them or a bunch of people very much into their bikes and with a lot of respect for other bike riders -

get a 2nd lock.

understand the anger build - but to throw in a tuppence worth -
I work in Bermondsey and regularly see a pair of chaveniles cruising round two up, with the biggest f**k off bolt cutters over their shoulders
Scum who nick bikes and bits do go equipped so it's more than feasible that they'll have a 15mm spanner -
As trampsparadise stated they went off to look at the hookah bar so the bikes were not accompanied all the time you were downstairs. and it's brick lane...
It's all come across as a bit of a personal and unsubstantiated attack on people who you are aware would probably be part of the forum community - and it's a slur that nearly all of us riders would take quite personally if it was directed at us and will inevitably provoke strong reactions.
nice wheels = pitlock
glad you still got your wheels

brick lane on sunday is notorious. I locked my bike up for 10mins a couple of weeks ago to buy a coffee and a bagel and someone nicked my seat. all the thieves round there go equipped with spanners and allen keys, so pitlocks are indeed sensible. though to be fair it's rare for it to happen if the bike is easily visible - i live round the corner from there and have only had something nicked the once. (not counting my waterbottle, which seems to just attract a certain kind of person... god knows why)

I used to work in the building 'Jacks place' (which kind of overlooks where the beach used to be, and is behind tescos on commercial street) and a guy got his bike nicked from the stairwell on the 5th floor..
someone just wandered into the building.. there was a security guard and everything... tag lock doors etc... but someone gained access somehow, wandered up the stairwell to the fifth floor, grabbed a bike, and wandered down and out with it..

Pitlock comes with its own axle.

i still don't understand 100% - maybe i'm slow : why would a theif only half-take off your wheel? Do you mean that he saw you coming back through a window and ran off or something? Why didn't the theif take the whole wheel?
-
• #41
what is this pitlock you speak of?

I saw you bouncing your front wheel and wondered what was going on, I thought you just had major loose cones or something. Glad nowt went missing in the end, like you say there was alot of people going up and down and probably scared off the wanbee thief. Nice to meet you guys albe it briefly.
Apart from that it was a good party well done Brick lane bikes.

Build, what kind of wheel was it? I've seen a pic of a bike of yours on another thread. Dura-Ace HF to Velocitys Deep Vs?
Just want to know as I have a set of the same hubs (are yours 32 hole?) and want them laced to Velocitys. I was hoping to lace the front and non-drive side radially, but the piece of papper warning of hub failure from radial lacing scared me off.
I'm no porker, but i would want to use them on London roads. How have yours been? Do you know who built them?
Does anyone else have any info on the dangers (or lack of dangers) of doing this? -
• #50
some info for you on radia lacing
did you actually see that guy with the spanner and what bike he was on? what was he wearing?
it's better if you calm down a little bit and leave some more details of what you saw exactly and describe clearly what happened at what time so anyone here might be able to help you. were there any eyewitnesses?
i'd say we're a good community here, at least those who came to bike polo today we all had a good time, figuring out each other's nickname on here and jan was buying everyone free booze. and i guess everyone will look out for everyone when this kind of shit happens wouldn't we?
