How is it with drops? Never ridden mine with anything but risers..

From my prospective it works very well, I find it too upright with risers, but I like a long low position, ideally I need a slightly longer stem.

I love riding mine with no backpack. Really comes alive.

It's my commuter and I wish my commute had no backpack requirements!

The secret is taking two days worth of clothes/lunch etc then you get a ride home and back backpack free

Front rack is the secret for pros

The real secret is having a job where you don't need to take anything home, on your back or in your head.

I'm a mech so not exactly a mentally taxing job, and I can work wearing what I wear to ride in.
