  • Pepe's is pretty fucking rad, so is Eamesy's.

  • Slowly but surely I begin to question buying one.. le sigh

do question it. I thought mine was shite, terrible ride quality, sold on in 2 months and I really wanted one more than anything when I bought it. Really did not enjoy riding it.

  • I bought it and loved it.
regret selling it really, but just prefered a more track geo bike as i couldnt afford to keep both it had to go.

  • The Gangsta is a track-geo bicycle, especially with a 35mm rake.

How much more tarck do you want? so tarck you can't turn?

  • I think Dakin means the frame angles, the forks are the only thing setting it out as track ed, 73.5 and 73 angles are very roadie. When you added your Easton's to it it essentially became a fixed with road bike geometry

I'm coming to the conclusion that a lot of people want a gangsta but when they actually ride them it's a bit marmite, love or hate, in definitely love and can only see myself changing my v2 for a v1.

  • That's hardy a roadie geometry as the fork trail and rake is what make it stand out.

73 work on any bike, from CX, tandem, crit, touring, hybrid, track, etc.

  • ^obviously you would say that

    ;-)

I like the really ratty orange one that the courier in NYC rode too.

  • ^^true, but true track geo would be steeper seat tube and possibly steeper headtube

  • I think mines is one of the best, but Im bias.

  • I had no issues with the geometry. It is just that the frame is so heavy and stiff. And lacks the versatility of a cross frame with no canti tabs or proper tyre spacing at the rear.

It looks really cool but rides subpar.

  • ^^true, but true track geo would be steeper seat tube and possibly steeper headtube

steeper seat tube doesn't really do much, put an in-line post and set saddle forward achieve similar result.

steeper headtube is common mainly because it mean you can use a road fork and still have similar trail as a track bike.

I didn't think it's heavy, mine weight about as much as a Dolan (8.8kg).

  • Fair enough, visually it can be seen though, even if different seatpost and stem combo's can result in the same contact points.

^^ and negaatio stop brooklyn-bashing! i like the stiffness, feels somewhere between noodle steel and aluminium, and you've got to remember these were designed as street fixed bikes, so fitting massive tyre clearances and canti bosses were unnecesary

  • I thought a street fixed should able to have room for bigger tyres, no?

  • depends how big ed, considering the majority here run 28c max, some go to 32/35, (i can't remember the actual clearance of a gangsta) i wouldn't think you'd need more than that, i remember austin horse and others have done cx on them so it is possible. they're not flippin fat bikes!

  • 38c on mine most of the time, it's the best.

  • Gangsta ride in the summer, please! Potentially a little like the fabled FUBU ride with touches of the Guinness rides and Burrito ride, if only for sustinence.

  • 23's on mine all year.

  • I think gangsta is really nice all-around-full-year-around-beat-the-shit-out-of-it frame/bike. It fits 35mm cross tyres which are decent enough at wintertime even here in Finland (at least most of the time). The frame looks a bit weird but I personally like the style bmw ended up designing it. Like there´s everything wrong when you look at it but somehow it still makes sense and feels fast when you ride one.

Of course there are many frames that you can use year-around-all-around etc. and some will of course do it better than gangsta in terms of tyre clearance, flexibility or whatever. It´s just something you prefer for some reason or other. Otherwise we all would be riding cross-checks.

Dude, chill out. He owned and rode one, didn't like it and has something else. He's entitled to his opinion and voicing it may help others.

If you like yours, that's cool too.

Ride what you like, ignore everything else.

  • think you've taken that the wrong way andy, i was joking, internet humor not coming across this time apparently, he's more than entitled to his opinion too

  • Ah, bloody forums. I'm going back to the pub.

  • Ed I'm more talking like a classic track frame.
As in horizontal tob tube, less tyre clearance, lighter etc.

I'd have loved to build up the gangsta as you did with mini-v brakes and stuff but just couldnt afford it.

Hell yeah, keep hearing of the FUBU ride, I bet Brooklyn's can own it.

  • In for a Brooklyn ride.

Really enjoying riding mine, in the recent wind and rain its felt solid and planted where as my previous frame (charge plug) always felt a bit skittish.

  • what do people reckon would be a fair price for v1 frame and forks in pretty good condition?
