  • I think this means very few lessons will be learned from this heatwave. Without the humidity, people won't face the stifling effects of the temperatures as much as they would with it and will think these sorts of temps are fine; burying their heads in the sand re: climate change effects.

  • I'm riding in normandy and the heat in the corn fields is unbelievable.

  • One bonus of loads of people working from home is that our office air con is working great due to only about 10% of people being in.

  • I spent this morning riding around a forest in Somerset, nice and shady, lovely breeze.
This afternoon I have to battle across central London, at rush hour, with a hiking bag and a MTB. I suspect I won't be in the best mood by the time I get home.

  • so hot today, my legs are literally baking

  • 35C here in Leeds. It’s actually quite nice.

  • Shade of a tree has been quite enjoyable outdoors. House a cool 24deg most of day, up at 25 now.

  • My wife has kept the house completely shut today, no doors or windows open and curtains and blinds shut and it is very cool compared to yesterday when we had every door and window open. Still hasn't stopped me sitting in the garden having a beer though!

  • kept the house completely shut today, no doors or windows open and curtains and blinds shut

This has been my tactic. Kitchen window had no blind & now in full sun so heating up but otherwise it has been great.

  • I slept in a hammock in the garden last night.

    It was lovely.

Having said that, note my posting time.

  • What’s strange about being up at 5:30?

  • It was wasn't it.
Although today I have to ride home at 3pm
    Nice might be substituted!

  • house completely shut

Wish more people realised this is the best solution.

  • Wish more people realised this is the best solution.

*specifically when its hotter outside than inside

  • Surely context spoke for itself but yes.

Although, I would offer same advice to keep the warm in when it's cold out too...

  • Jana put a jumper on.

She was absolutely fucking with you.

    Props to her.

  • climate change

"What climate change? This is just cyclical", says every Facebook user across the globe.

It's not like every country is experiencing "never before" weather events every bloody year for the last 10 years.

  • They will, once this starts happening every year.

  • If you close up the curtains and windows and stuff BEFORE it starts heating up it's better still.

  • She was absolutely fucking with you.

Thats exactly what I thought at the time. If she wasn't it still fucked with me!

  • My brother used to do that. He'd come down from northern QLD and would be like "ooh, it's so cold here" while we're sitting in shorts and tshirts in 37C or some bullshit. Twat.

  • We got internal shutter fitted recently and made a big difference, putting my hand between shutter and windows I can actually feel the heat inbetween.

Might get external shutter for the rear of the house (ground floor flat)

  • In a middle-aged thread x golf club x first world problems mash-up, we have a swimming pool but I can't use it currently as I'm recovering from hernia surgery. Horrible watching rest of friends/family cooling off as I sweat uncomfortably from the sidelines.

  • surely there must be room up the shallow end for you to just paddle ?
