    lol!!

  • Lots of distruction.
Terrifying shards of corrugated iron embedded 8 meters up in trees.
Bits of boat on high mountain paths.
    No street lighting.
    Road signs missing.
plus plenty of folk missing larg sections of their roof.

Still. Havent heard of anyone getting hurt yet. So you have to ffel lucky. I had a 4m diameter temporary swimming pool (one of those big feckers that requires filters etc.). That I had been too busy to pack away (was empty though). On a balcony, on the right hand side of the house. Its now in front of my doorway on the left hand side. I swear that thing weighs a ton.

I have plenty of tyding to do, but all is well. Cheers.

    Good to hear.

  • the wind took away our recycling bin

  • sounds like you're dealing with that nasty industrial type wind...

    http://www.wind-watch.org/news/2011/11/04/industrial-wind-is-not-green/

  • Looking forward to 30 mph winds blowing me all the way home

All of the way to the Roebuck you mean...

Too windy out still for deep carbon anybody? Have avoided being outside for most of today.

  • I was halfway to work when that monsoon hit. By the time I got there I was so wet that I was sent to the shops to buy dry clothes and even after hanging my jeans up for 4 hours they're still soaking wet.

  • still no word from smallfurry.. :(

Jeg frykter det verste for Norge

  • 'Some wind gusts reached 233km per hour (145mph), according to Norway's Meteorological Institute, which described Dagmar as possibly the third worst windstorm to strike the country in the past 50 years.'

  • What did you buy Scoot? Show and tell! Hope you didn't get the 'You must be mad cycling in this weather' comments from unenlightened colleagues?

Now my winter tights, SealSkinz, gloves and shoes are about 20% dry after this morning's downpour, I am shortly to venture out again, this time only to Peckham (which provides a wholly different kind of entertainment).

Hey, without risk there is no opportunity for gain :)

Time to try out my new rain jacket...

    jesus

  • ^^ I wasn't cycling, I was walking. It hit just before Islington Green and after sheltering under a bus stop for a while I thought I'd just make a run for it and legged it the 200 remaining yards to work but it was like running through a shower! My Barbour jacket kept my upper body pretty dry so I only had to buy jeans and socks. The jeans are unimaginatively exactly the same as the black H&M ones I was already wearing except the new ones have lame 'artistic rips' in the knees because they were the only ones they had in my size. Bah.

  • Maybe you need one of these?

  • Cycling down Holloway road this morning was like cycling down a wind tunnel. Kind of fun! Hilarious to see all the peds wrangling mangled brollies!

  • Fucking shitty weather washed up loads of debris onto roads so punctured last night and ended up walking through deptford back to mine.

Took my brompton instead this morning to avoid having to change puncture/risk a recurrence while the weather is still shit.

    soon realised that...

no riding at all over xmas

    • 25mi ride on monday
    • 18mi commutes tues and weds
    • brompton w/ undersized seatpost & 69GI
    • bastard headwind
      = brutally slow, painful commute

and it downpoured like a motherfucker the second I hit the north side of london bridge compared to the light drizzle on the south side.

weather report yesterday said today would be clear skies ffs

  • ^htfu

  • It's love out there now HB .... I might go for a ride.*

    *whatthefuckisgoingon?

  • And now there are blue skies whilst my shoes and socks are sopping wet.. got to love British weather!

But I'm with you Hatbeard, I reckon I was doing about 2mph in to that headwind!

  • Dude commuting this morning on OKR with 50mm FFWD wheels on his Cube with mudguards = rather you than me

  • CXP30's were quite interesting when it got gusty.

  • if I don't get a tailwind tonight I'm gonna be pissed...

  • Dude commuting this morning on OKR with 50mm FFWD wheels on his Cube with mudguards = rather you than me

I've seen this guy and he makes me LOL.. Even the bloke who commutes on an Isaac Joule with Zipp 404's and mud guards saw fit to ride in with a more reasonable set of wheels today

  • if I don't get a tailwind tonight I'm gonna be pissed...

If the breeze works out the same as yesterday the London Bridge to Deptford/Lewisham/Greenwich run will be done at an average of 22mph!

  • I've seen this guy and he makes me LOL..

Almost goes without saying he was wearing a Team Sky kit and MTB shoes....

  • Well, last night was fun.
Set off home in the eye of a fucking hurricane. Seemed to take forever to get there. I spent the last quarter of an hour shouting at my legs to press harder, my pedals to turn, telling the wind to just fuck off for a minute.
At one point I had to turn round because it felt like I was towing some cunt up the hill on a mobility scooter, but there was no-one there, just me and the wind. I almost fell in the door, and started eating the first thing I saw - a jar of gherkins. I was that fucked. Turns out I'd been riding in steady 40mph winds with 90mph gusts.
Now I've got to do it all over again.

    Bollocks.

Anyone want to swap four bikes for an old Land Rover?
