What the hell has your haircut got to do with it?

Dammit.
Tried to get a policy with M & S, only to be told that due to having a flat roof, they are unable to insure me.
I tried to purchase insurance from M&S, and their website tried to launch a pop-up during the payment process.
IE blocked this, and that fucked the entire process, leaving me unable to finish the transaction.
I emailed M&S about this, asking if the direct debit had been set up, and got an email back saying "dunno", basically.
Their website is fucking terrible.

Has anyone got experience of adding their bike (or whatever they take away from home) to a room insurance policy? I live in a shared house and will happily add the bike away from home to a policy, but there's no point me paying for the entire house.

I think that only Endsleigh offer per-room insurance, they have a maximum value of £1,500 for notified bikes.
This information is a couple of years old now mind you.

I did manage to pay, it would appear.

Seems like M&S is a pretty good bet, but will they or any insurance policies cover your bike being stolen by getting mugged.
I'v heard a few people say they've had biked nicked while waiting for lights to change and stuff. -

I was trying to get contents insurance yesterday. I'm sharing the house with 3 other people so most of the companies refused me.
Endsleigh can cover bikes only up to 750£ in a shared house (normally up to 1500£), so i'll probably get contents insurance with them but i still need to get cycle specific one.
Which insurance would cover bikes up to 2000£ - theft and damage (me crashing my bike) and would pay up with money?
Is butterworth good for that? Any experience when claiming through them any damage? -

I've just done this trip around the block and M&S have spiked their cycle cover. Post office now has the most reasonable quote:
Contents only 20k value, 4k ourt of house plus 2k bike:
M&S 590
PO 234nuff said.

I'm looking at liability Insurance etc
LCC, CTC or BCCTC (I'm currently with) don't really offer me much except 10% at wiggle, my personal discount is higher
BC offer race licences (heh) and discounted tickets etc
LCC 15% off at a lot of shops, there's a picture of Corny on the websiteAnyone have any recomendations/suggestions?

Just liability insurance? or full bike insurance?
I've been looking for full bike insurance (separate to house insurance) and after browsing around I've come down to Cycleguard, and Cycle cover. The latter is underwritten by Hiscox now, but you have to go through Merlin for Claims (see Clefty's post above). Cycleguard have depreciation for bikes over 3 yrs old. I'm going to check out BC again, but at the moment I'm veering towards Cycle Cover.
Anyone else got any more recommendations?

I'm just looking for liability at the mo.
Currently have the bikes covered with my home insurance.. chruchill I think

BC's cover is the same as Cycleguard (JLT Online) and has the depreciation for bikes over 3 years. Now to read the very small print of LCC's Cycle Cover.

Home insurance will always be cheaper than specific insurance. Unless you're in shared accommodation an are looking to insure contents of your room. Insurers don't trust housemates.

Our home insurance has an upper limit that is too low unfortunately. Haven't seen any home insurance that would cover our bikes yet.
-
• #592
I have direct line with a fancy add on that gives me 1.5k per bike upper limit.

I found the whole depreciation thing to be a real kick in the balls- essentially they said that if the bike was worth 4K but was five years old they'd pay out 25%.
I said ok, so I only have to pay to insure a 1K bike then?
They said no- you have to pay premiums on a 4K bike, but we'll pay out as it if was a 1K bike.
This was Butterworths iircc.

I've been told I have to look for insurance for my bike now. What's the best that you've found so far L&W?
Since most depreciation seems to be based on the build date of the frame, and mine is being build with a NOS frame (but only a couple of years old) I'm a bit wary of it TBH

how much they worth? post office covers my 2.5k road bike...
-
• #596
The Post Office insurance will cover bikes to a total of £5k.
But let's be frank, bike insurance is a con and you'd be better off saving the money you're paying on premiums to cover you in the event of a theft.
-
• #597
Hiscox covers my bikes, yeah you pay more, but they're covering £20k worth of bikes at the moment.
-
• #598
Butterworths (now underwritten by Hiscox) don't seem to have any depreciation - this is the LCC offered policy.
Benjam - I'm looking to cover the Demon ... which wouldn't be covered by the post office limit.
Saying that, the Demon will only get stolen if it is wrenched from my hands, or the house is broken into.

David - do you have a separate policy for them, or is it in your house insurance?
-

andyp - havng had 2 bikes nicked in 18 months, I'm getting fed up of having to shell out each time. Premiums would be less at this rate.
L&W & Velocio - I'll look at Butterworths and Hiscox then, thanks
Dammit.
