  • The ultimate LFGSS bike would be a collaboration with Paul Smith, Ononelangster and Rapha.

    Fixed.

  • something interestingly but not ostentatiously lugged, horizontal top tube, not overly gloopy paint finish, some chrome showing, something quirky in the build. To be honest there's a curly-stayed Hetchins out there somewhere with a Chater Lea chainset that makes me drool every time. Probably not much good for wheelies though.

in my own opinion, that would be the perfect LFGSS frame (but in 531 of course) to start off with, not too fussy with the lugwork, a classic track bike appearance (look at the fork for instance), quite affordable, and perfectly suitable for everyday riding.

for bonus point - on the seat stay, it should be stamped with 'LFGSS'.

(bike shown in picture is an Alien bikes frame with nicely tight geometry made with double-butted cro-mo).

  • WTF! This thread's from June 07!! Things have changed a bit since then...

Yeah, but the guy who started it died, so I'm keeping it alive in his memory.

He was such a nice bloke. We all miss him terribly.

    Sniff. :(

  • **Ohhhhh Flickwg!!! **

    OTP right up your street.

    :))

  • a threaded headset, nitto quill stem and seatpost, andel silver crank (cheapest one that look classic and decent) and it'll be the LFGSS OTP bike.

  • the 1 and only

  • oh no, wait, the chainwheel was obviously too small for ultimateness

  • i like the idea of someone designing a set of decals/vinyls for lfgss specials, to put on you custom or otp builds so they would all be personal but united. discrete and cool !

  • the forum seems to be all about individuality and unique looking bikes
i don't think a uniform londonfgss bike would work

  • +1
    well put.

  • Out of interest why would someone strive to have a bike associated with the forum, whether by design or by decal?

I could almost, with a stretch of the imagination, have understood it back when the forum was a small group of friends but theres now over twelve and a half thousand members.

Advertising yourself as a member of something which is that big seems alien to me.

  • 12,500 group buy

    just imagine the discount

  • oh no, wait, the chainwheel was obviously too small for ultimateness

they might as well have had the chainring touching the ground, a 3rd wheel, think of all the extra power they can put down and the saved energy

Whoever does this would be rich

  • This is a weird thread. I'm glad ed has got a recommendation, I'd feel lost without it.

    Don't you sometimes wear a Starbucks T-shirt?

  • if it is object it would read starfucks i am pretty sure !

  • What!? I started this thread in June 07!
    Come on...let is rest. :-/

haha i was afraid of a repost so i searched for 'ultimate'

the bike is bruce beresfords' (RIP)

"Other than the rider's training, genetic make up and competitiveness, the bicycle is the key aspect in speed and efficiency. This bicycle, called "the Ultimate", along with its rider Bruce Bursford, broke the world speed record of 334.6 km/h. This design was made aerodynamically efficient to cut down wind resistance. Just a gentle breeze? No, 90% of the resistance you feel is from the wind. This aerodynamic drag is made up of air pressure drag and direct friction, which pulls you backwards. Thus a drafting technique is used. The cyclist rides behind a larger vehicle or another cyclist that cuts through the air and 40% of the cyclist's energy is conserved. It is proven that cycling is the most efficient way of traveling because it takes only 100 calories for a cyclist to burn, for a result of 4828.03 m, while a car would die out after 85.34 m with the same amount of energy. Aileen Chou -- 2001

that's not all. check the margin... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Bursford"

    apparently more versions were made

    cheers

  • Bruce Bursford was a fraud and a charlatan. His world speed record was using that bike on rollers. Whoa, watch out for the danger kids!

    ouch. sorry didn't know that.

bike's still nice though! useless aerodynamica...

  • This is the ultimate bike, except for the saddle, quality of newer colored Flite's seem to suck a lot.

    Highlights;
    1) A bit heavy but strong steel frame
    2) Hubs of descent quality (Miche rear, Campy front)
    3) Rims of good quality (Mavic CXP14 rear, Campy front)
    4) Good quality chain and chainrings.. the cranks are cheap shit however, but they get the job done!
    5) The seatpost is now changed to a Campy aero, which makes it ultimate ;)
    6) It has a world champion color scheme..

    No need to be sarcastic.
