Test out a selection of bike to see which one you find most comfortable. Then check the price tag.

My favourite subject, my beater is 54cm, I have a frame in the cupboard that is 55cm, I recently sold a 55.5cm, I am building a 57.5cm and I am about to buy a 59cm. This is called sizing by buying frames, building them up and seeing how well they fit. There is probably a cheaper way.

im looking at a frame listed on ebay and the measurements for the seat tube are given as below:
Seat Tube: 23"/ 58.5 cm c-t; 22 1/4"/ 56.5 cm c-c;
which is the standard measurement for the size of frame? c-c? or c-t?
-
• #81
c-c usually
-
• #82
is that frame a bit strange? or will the c - t measurement usually be around 2cm larger tha nthe c -c?

read Sheldon - http://www.sheldonbrown.com/frame-sizing.html. If the bike has a sloping top tube then it wouldn't be unusual for the measurements to differ like this.

hiis it true that stock iro angus can barspin with 700cc wheels? im 5,9 wat size should i get roughly ?
-
• #85
i'm 5'10" and i ride a 56 Mark V. Not sure of it's the same measurements...

Barspins depend on forks. I have a big Angus and if it didn't have brake cable it'd spin. Non-standard forks of no particular brand. Similar ones available on eBay. Just search 700c forks. I have 700c wheels btw.

Thinking about bidding on this Rourke bike on ebay, but the frame size looks a little odd to me - kind of long but low (57 ctc top tube, 53 ctc seat tube)...

None of the other frame size threads seem to have any similar issues, so wondered if anyone had come across these kind of dimensions, and the size of rider it would fit??

someone with a longer torso and shorter legs. If you're going to bid its better going by the length of the top tube as its easier to adjust the length of the seat tube with seat post etc. and as long as the top tube fits you can probably dial it in, it just won't be ideal.
I would say it'd probably fit someone 5'7-5'10 but that's just what I think. I'm sure someone who knows more than me will be of greater help.

Hey guys,
Looking at getting a charge push in large size (63cm).
http://www.chargebikes.com/products/bikes/detail.php?id=17
Would this suit me? I'm a leggy 6ft1 but 63cm sounds very big. Is the measurement from the centre point of the bottom bracket or the underside? I recently rode a friends racer which was 58cm and it felt a bit cramped.
Edit: according to above inside leg measurement method I should be after a 61.2cm frame. Will 63 be too big? Never owned a road bike before so some oppinions would be appreciated as to how it may affect handling/balance etc.

Sounds familiar. My beater is 56, my Claud Butler is 58 and I've just bought a Peugeot which is a 61. It'll be nice to actually have a bike that fits me.

Do you think a 61cm frame for somebody who is 5'11 way too big? i will only be using it for city riding and im getting a real good price! cheers
-
• #95
At 5'11" myself I find a 61cm bike too big, although rideable. Ideal size for me is between 55cm - 57cm
-
• #96
at 5 11 and a 61, you'd have to have a long leg, in which case unless you have a short TT frame you are going to struggle. 61 is big.
If you are averagely proportioned, then 56-58 on most normal geo frames is about where you want to be.

Thanks guys, didnt want to waste my money!

Unfortunately I can't test it as its a advertised buy. Too bad!

if you can stand over the bike comfortably with just 2-3 cm's of clearance, it fits. basically.
your overall height is relatively irrelevant to fitting a frame. it depends on the inseam of your legs for the seat tube and then the length of your torso for the top tube.
